Chapter 1.
Maybe life was going in slow motion these days – after all. Everything happened so fast. One morning she woke up, did her normal morning routine and later in the afternoon went to the local dance school to teach children ballet. Then all of the sudden in the middle of helping a girl with her pliés her phone started to ring and it was her agent on the other end informing her with the pick-up she needed badly these days.
After having spent about 6 months without any gig besides the teaching, she got through the auditions of going on tour with Westlife. All she had to do was show up at Park Plaza Country Hall Hotel at 10am on Saturday. Do the routine again, meet the chorographer – the guys possibly and hear if she’s on board. Of course, that makes it sound a lot easier than it actually was.
On Saturday morning woke up early – having nerves already rage through her body it was hard catching sleep at all in the night. She tried to wake herself up with a nice long shower and it seemed to have done the trick as she was excited when she got out and changed into her dancing gear. To make sure she wasn’t going to fall asleep halfway through her drive up there she drank a cup of coffee with her breakfast and once at 9am she took off to one of the finer hotels in London city.
"NEXT!" an old looking lady called out.
looked up from her seat, her breathing pace quickened the moment she got up and with every click her heal made when it hit the marmer floor her heart beat unsteadily. She did her best to bring confidence back in her posture but it was hard to do when she was on the edge of a breakthrough. A little warily she smiled at the lady who called for her, before walking into the massive room.
She was on a stage, spotlight burning through her.
stood still in the middle waiting on further instructions when a voice came through the dark. "Could you go the mic please?"
squinted her eyes, trying to find a face to match to the sound as she walked forward till she reached the microphone. On that point the lights in the room got turned on and
could see about 7 faces - all staring at her. "Name please?" she stammered for a brief moment and looked at the guy talking to her - she didn't recognize him. "
." she stated simply before taking in the rest.
There was a girl sitting there, she looked like she was a dancer - the way her body was built. Definitely a dancer - and four guys who looked like they belonged in the band. "Age?" again
's eyes were drawn back to the man speaking. "24" she heard some muttering which only made her more uncomfortable. "What is it that you do?" "I'm a ballet teacher." she once again heard mutters, she took the time to look at the rest of them. An older man - could be the manager, she wasn't sure. Then the guy talking in the mic - casting director and there was a younger man with them. She couldn't place him at all. He didn't look like a dancer, but that didn't say anything of course. "You may start with the rehearsed routine. After that Priscilla is going to do a routine for you and we'll see how fast you pick it up." instead of speaking
just nodded and took steps backwards.
"She looks nice, doesn't she?" spoke to who was sitting next to him. "Oi, . We're here looking for new dancers - not your new girlfriend."
replied with a laugh.
grinned and turned his attention back to the girl dancing.
on the other hand was looking at her in a completely different way. She was indeed beautiful. Even with the nervous look in her eyes, it somehow made it endearing to watch her. She wore ribboned up black heals with black tights hugging her long legs. She was wearing a pink voile skirt with a black top clanging on her every curve. She looked like a ballet dancer, slender. Beautiful truthfully. He smiled slightly as she finished - the way she looked to the sky and mouthed a thank you on the obvious gratitude on a routine well done. She took a deep breath, wiping the hair out of her face as Priscilla joined her. She followed her lead carefully - not to make a mistake and heard a 'well done' when she was in fact done.
certainly hoped she was good enough to make tour; he was interested in getting to know her.
exited the auditioning room on a rush of adrenaline. She sipped on her water in the waiting room while getting out her phone, dialling
’s number. "
! How did it go?" "I think it went well. They seemed pleased. I'll find out if I'm through in a couple of hours. There are 5 more girls to go and then they are going to decide which 6 girls are going to continue."
spoke in one long breath. "Alright. Well done dear. Keep in touch!" "I will. Bye!" with that she hung up the phone and slacked back down in her seat, taking out a magazine from her bag.
A couple of hours later when all the girls had auditioned, nerves were back in
's body. She did her best to steady herself when the door opened and a few familiar faces walled in. All for nothing because the first word spoke were. "We're sorry ladies; we are just here to keep you some company as they make the final decision. We enjoyed watching all of you and want to thank everybody for auditioning today. Even if you don't make it, you are all excellent dancers."
smiled kindly up towards the four guys and watched them head off to talk to some of the other girls there.
simply got out another magazine and started reading about the 10 ways to get a beach ready body.
“You’re the ballet teacher, aren’t ye?” a voice suddenly spoke next to her.
looked up startled until she met up with a pair of eyes. “Eh, yeah. That’s me. Call me
though.” She said as she extended her hand. “
.” He replied kindly. “You did a great job. I put my vote on you.” He said as he finally sat down next to her.
chuckled. “I’m sure you’ve said that to every girl you spoke to.”
grinned. “Common courtesy to do so. But I actually did put my vote on you. Believe did as well. Don’t tell the rest though.” With that he got up to meet up with the rest of the guys again, leaving
behind with a smile on her face.
It was a little less than an hour later when the casting director and even Priscilla walked back in the room, repeating just what
said some moments prior. Of course that wasn’t going to make it easier if one got denied. “We’ll be naming the ones who are picked in a random order. If you’re named first that doesn’t automatically mean you were the best.”
stared at the man in full tension when he named the first girl. “Alyssa James.” A girl jumped up and squealed, walked towards the guys to receive hugs and congratulations.
caught
’s eye briefly who was looking at her with a smile – he winked just as the director called out the next one. “Kathryn Barnes.” A girl with long blonde curls did the same as Alyssa did and took a stand next to her.
Priscilla took over the paper and smiled at the sight of the next name. “Carrie Fisher.” Another girl with long blonde hair stood up with a bright smile, receiving all the congratulation wishes from surrounding people. Again
looked at
, getting more nervous with every name that gets called out that wasn’t her. But he was still smiling while looking in her direction – like he knew something more than she did. He probably did as well, considering that he could look at the list. Before
realized it the fourth name was called out. “Georgia Hennessey.”
looked confused in
’s direction, who just at that point looked the other way to give Georgia a hug. She sighed, started wrapping the hem of her skirt around her thumb to control nerves that were going through her body. Just two more girls are getting picked and there are six more waiting for their faith. The chances were working against her.
“Caroline Jenkins.” It was another blonde that got up from the crowd.
looked down at her own hair, wondering if she should have dyed it instead. She slacked a sigh and watched Caroline getting embraced in the group. The last name was up now, this was it. “Sophie Meyer.”
Chapter 2.
Claps erupted around the room for all six who made it – that didn’t include
. She brought her hands together slowly, clapped along and when it died down, slacked a sigh. As she ran a hand through her hair she got up from her seat to collect all of her items.
What she didn’t see was
looking surprised. “I thought
was going through.” “
, we talked about it. She’s a ballet dancer. She did her routines well, but we’re not dancing ballet on tour.” “She’s on your list.”
said pointing at
’s name between the rest of them. “As I said, she’s a good dancer; we’re keeping her as a spare option.”
sighed and looked in
’s direction, busy gathering her things in her bag. He excused himself for a moment and walked in her direction.
“I’m sorry you didn’t make it.” He said carefully not to startle her again.
turned around with a wary smile. “It’s alright.” Though, it wasn’t really. She was certain that the moment she got out of the hotel and into her car, tears would fall down. “I really did put in my vote for you. Your name was even on the list. If it helps they’re keeping you as a spare option.”
nodded to
’s words, but she didn’t want to hear them. “
. I said I was alright. It’s not the first time I’ve been rejected. I should have known though. I am 24, old compared to the other girls here.” “It wasn’t your age that was the issue.”
tried.
sighed and slung her bag over her shoulder. “It doesn’t matter. I didn’t get picked. I should get back to my part of town, classes to teach you know.” She took a deep breath and walked out of the room she had just spent numerous nervous hours in; it all ended in disappointment.
“Hey
.”
said into the phone when it rung. “No, I didn’t make it.” She replied to the question that got quickly asked. “And no, it’s okay. There’ll be other things – I just have to make it back to the dance school. Have to pay the bills one way or another.”
said, trying to sound optimistic as she put the keys in the engine. “Alright, you make that call. If it’s the age thing I don’t want to know.” She was curious to find out why they didn’t take her; she didn’t dance badly at all today.
hung up the phone and drove off the parking lot of the fancy hotel.
She was happy when she got home and got to rinse of in the shower before going to class. This morning didn’t exactly go the way she wanted it too, she was certain that she was going to make it.
seemed certain she was going to make it. This big break she expected to have got washed away right underneath her feet, but then again, after spending ten years in the professional dancing industry she should have known by now that there are more rejections than acceptations.
The next day
had accepted the fact that she didn’t go through and did her best to go through life as she did before any of this happened. Meaning, do the Sunday classes. Or at least her classes which was only one.
was determent to see her again. The other girls were nice, surely. But it was their tour and he had decided the moment she walked on that stage that she was going to be a part of it. Dancing ballet or not. He was driving around London all day now, going down the list of dance schools asking whether a
works there. He had no such luck this far and there were only a few places left to check out when his phone started ringing. He read the screen and picked up hesitatingly. "Hey
." "! Where are ye?" he heard on the other end. "Doing some shopping." he lied before turning a corner. "On a Sunday?"
asked in disbelief. "Yeah." He tried to sound neutral though he knew that
knew he was lying. "Please don't tell me you're looking for that ballet teacher."
sighed heavily and parked his car next to another dance studio. "We'll talk later, bye." without waiting for a reply he hung up the phone.
"Hi, ehm. Does a
work here?"
asked the girl at the reception desk. "Yes, she's in class at the moment. Should be done shortly." The girl smiled. "Is it alright if I watch. I'm an old friend, trying to surprise her, ye know?"
lied again. The girl shrugged and pointed in the right direction.
smiled kindly and walked down the hallway when a familiar voice started to bounce off the walls. "Petit saut! A little more out with your right foot Amy. Yes, excellent. And again."
spoke as she walked down the line of tiny dancers.
smiled at the sight - still just as beautiful.
"Sir, there are seats over there if you're interested in watching. I must ask if one these children is your daughter."
asked without looking. "I can't say I have children yet."
spoke up.
recognized his Irish accent anywhere and turned around. "
! What are you doing here?" "Looking for you. Maybe we can talk?"
hesitated for moment but nodded. "I'm done in 10 minutes, meet me outside?"
nodded and turned around, but not before hearing her turn back to the room and say. "Free dancing girls. Show me those twirls you've been working on, Lisa!"
It was a mere 15 minutes later when
got out of the building and met up with
who was standing next to his car. "Hey." he smiled. "I have to get changed first." she said pointing down to her tights coming out from under her pea coat. "Maybe we can go to my place and talk whatever it is you want to talk about?" she offered. "It’s just down the road. I usually just walk." without another word
walked to the other end and opened the passengers side door. "Car has to come along somehow." he smiled cheekily and
got in. He shut the door behind her and walked back to his own side. The moment he sat down he listened to her instructions and soon they reached a small apartment building.
"This is it."
mused unsurely. "I know it's not much, but I suppose it's home." she shrugged and got out, waiting for him to follow. He didn't say anything until he was inside. "It fits you." he said with a smile. "What? Tiny house with oddly chosen furniture?"
laughed in reply. "Maybe not in that way - but there's still something that makes it you." he smiled.
took her coat off and threw it on a chair before sitting down on the couch herself. "You don't know what I would give to just live in one of those hotel rooms you stay in."
sat down next to her and looked around again. “I’d much prefer an actual home to a hotel room. A bed where not thousands of strangers have laid in.” he chuckled and smiled.
smiled back and then got up. “Let me get changed then, make yourself comfortable. I’m sure there’s something to drink in the fridge, help yourself to anything.”
mused pointing towards the fridge in the corner before leaving through on the door into her bedroom where she quickly put on some jeans and a top.
"So, what is that you want to talk about?"
wondered once returned to the living room area. "I'd like to apologize once again that you didn't get through. I did my best for you."
said with an uncertain smile. ", it's fine. Surely, it has been a while since I had something else to do than ballet teaching. But I've been a professional dancer since I was 14 - had my high at 18 and then it slowly went down after 21.
said they didn't pick me because I added too much grace in it - too much ballet. Which is true, but ballet is something I have been doing since I was four, I’ve done other dances – I didn’t dance ballet in my audition. I'm getting off track here. Just don't feel guilty for me, because I am fine. Enjoy tour with the 6 lovely girls who were picked, they are all excellent dancers."
tried kindly.
“Fine. Let me take you out to dinner then?”
said with a cheeky smile.
laughed. “We can do dinner.”
grinned and got up from the couch. “Alright then, I will call you.”
pursed her lips in return and got up as well to show him to the door. “I’ll be waiting for that then.” She said with a smile.
kissed her cheek before turning around and left.
couldn't hide excitement when he called the following day and asked if she was up for dinner. She said her yes kindly and set the date at 7pm that evening. She ran from the dance school to her home, showered and got dressed within an hour and was just putting the last adjustments on her make-up when the doorbell rang. Before turning away from the bathroom mirror she looked at the time on her watch. 7pm. It could only be
. “Comin’!” She yelled into the hallway, closing the tube of mascara before walking out and opened up the door.
To her surprise, it wasn’t the singer she expected to show up. Instead, it was someone she wasn’t waiting for at all. Not at this time anyway. “Jake? What are you doing here?” she asked surprised, running a hand through her long brown hair. “Pick up some stuff. I’m moving up to Bolton next week – Just need to make sure I get everything. It’s a long drive you know.” He replied with a shrug. “Oh, sorry. Are you getting ready to go out?” he added finally taking a notice of
’s appearance. “I am, actually. Can’t you come by tomorrow?”
had remained friends with Jake when the relationship ended. It ended on a mutual agreeance; they were growing out of love with each other and it was better if they went separate ways. For some reason he never thought of picking up some of the items that were left there – for four months.
“I have work, .” He said with a plead.
sighed, poked her head outside to look for any sign of
and once she made clear he was gone she stepped aside to let Jake in the house. “I promise I’ll be quick!” he called out, searching through some stuff that was in a box in the corner. “Can I help? Speed the progress up a little bit?”
replied before closing the front door. “CD’s. DVD’s. I’m sure you know which ones are mine.” He said from the bedroom door.
nodded and crouched down on the floor, taking out the box with CD’s and DVD’s and putting everything aside that didn’t seem like hers. “Why are you moving up to Bolton anyway?” she wondered as she picked up a Westlife CD and smiled at
’s face.
“Work.” He said calmly re-entering the living room with a stack of shirts. “Do you have a bag or something I can borrow? An empty box perhaps?”
pointed somewhere in the corner, not paying much attention to him as she picked up the last DVD that could be his. “This should be it.” She mumbled as she got up. Jake held out the box with his shirts in it out to her and
dropped her items on top. “Just have to visit the bathroom and then I’m out!” Jake said with a smile before putting the box on the coffee table and ran off towards the bathroom
checked her watch. 7.15. He could just be late, though he should call. “Isn’t that man of yours supposed to show up?” Jake asked as he got back into the living room with a few items normally found in a bathroom.
groaned before sitting herself down on the couch. “I know we broke up and all, but at least you always showed up on time.” “He’ll be here soon,
.” Jake tried with a smile. “Could you hand me my phone please?”
wondered. Jake tossed her, her phone before walking towards the kitchen area and grabbing himself a glass of water.
Another one of
’s groans made him spin around and face her. “What?” he asked surprised. “He’s not picking up his bloody phone.” She said dropping it on the couch next to her. “He’ll come.” Jake tried, sitting back down next to her. “He seemed like the guy who would be time, call if he couldn’t make it. Looks can be deceiving I tell you.” Jake chuckled in reply. “I put on some water for tea. Just relax. He might show up any moment now.”
Hours seem to pass by slowly, no call from
whatsoever.
drifted off into sleep after a small crying session when finding out that she was indeed stood up. It wasn’t the first time, or well, the first time in a long time, but still, not the first time – but somehow it hurt more now
did it. It was about 11pm when a buzzing noise was being made. Jake had just brought
to bed and was about to leave her apartment but he had to check who was calling her.
When he saw
’s name flash in the screen he picked up. “Hello.” He stated simply. “Oh, hi. Excuse me. I think I might have dialled the wrong number.”
spoke startled. “Oh, no. This is
’ phone. She’s just not available at the moment.” Jake replied calmly. “Oh, right. Should have known really. Do you mind me asking who this is?” “A friend I’d say.” “O-kay. Well, could you kindly tell her that I’ve called? And that I’m sorry and promise to make it up to her?”
asked pleadingly. “I’ll pass it on.” And without further ado Jake hung up the phone, grabbed his box with items and left the apartment without writing down any message, nor having the intention of calling her in the morning to let her know.
When the next morning did arrive,
quickly got reminded of last night’s events and slummed back down in her bed. It was a mere hour later that she decided to take on the world with confidence – none of them knew that
didn’t show up the night prior and noone had to know. This little humiliating moment she could easily keep to herself.
As she made her way towards the bathroom she walked passed her phone that was lighting up. 16 missed calls.
looked confused and stared at the caller - All
. Except for one which she would call back later. She was rather angry at
at the moment and found absolute no reason to call him back and hear whatever excuse he had mastered to bring up. ‘No reception in the area.’ ‘Battery died.’ There’s a boat load of lame excuses out there in the world for any guy to grab when he had stood a girl up. They might have made a website. www.excuseswhyyoucouldntcall.com or maybe something easier; www.guyexcuses.com.
laughed at her own mind as she put her phone back down and continued her way to the bathroom to get ready to face this day. She ran a brush through her tangled up hair as the telephone started to ring again. Groaning softly under her breath she put the brush down and made her way back. The unknown number who had called her before. It better not be
. “
speaking.” “Hi,
. My name is Eric Fletcher; you auditioned for the Westlife tour some days ago I believe.” A man spoke from the other end. “Yes, yes I did.”
replied confused. “At the time you didn’t make it. But I’m calling to inform you that one of the dancers who did get picked has done a double booking and chose not to do this tour. I hereby like to welcome you to join the crew and be part of the Westlife fall tour.”
Chapter 3.
There were a million and one thoughts running through
’s mind. First off, she wanted to scream – this was the important step in her career she missed a few days ago. Second;
. The one person she absolutely didn’t want to see at this time.
But could she push her career aside for a man? A stupid man at that? “Oh my. I don’t know what to say!”
stumbled over her words. Eric laughed at the other end. “Please tell me you’ll join us for rehearsals on Wednesday. I’ll email you all the information.” “Oh. Yes. Of course! Can’t wait. Thank you. Bye.”
hung up the phone and squealed the moment she was sure noone could hear her and started to dance around the room before calling up
and telling the great news – and of course her dance school where she had to disappoint some students.
Wednesday happened quicker than expected and
awoke with nerves raging through her entire body. She did her best to control every single one of them as she got herself ready. She put on some sweatpants with a tank – pulling a sweater vest over it in case she got cold; though that was doubtful considering the activities of the day.
She packed a bottle of water in her bag, together with a mere apple. After she made sure she didn’t forget anything she walked out of her apartment and on to her car to drive back to the nicer part of town. All the while, she was hoping that it was just going to be the dancers today. Surely, the Westlife guys were lovely; that all for one.
slacked a deep sigh. Perhaps she was over reacting. Maybe he did have a perfectly fine reason for not calling – maybe she gave him her wrong number? But then again, if he was that willing he would put in just as much effort into finding out her phone number than he had finding out where she worked.
“
! Perfectly on time.” Priscilla said with a smile. “I’m sure you remember the rest of the girls. Alyssa, Caroline, Georgia, Carrie and Sophie – this is
, she’ll be replacing Kathryn the coming months. The guys; Drew Horne and Daniel Kinselton. You’re paired up with Daniel over here. Sophie’s with Drew – The rest of the girls are matched up with the lads. They’ll come around later today as I felt we need to roll into some of the older routines.” Priscilla spoke in a long ramble and
did her best to keep up.
She walked up towards the guy previously mentioned to as Daniel and extended her hand. “It’s nice to meet you.” she said kindly. “Likewise.” He replied. Daniel had sandy brown hair, lovely green eyes – strong jaw line. Actually, he was very handsome. She was going to enjoy her time being her.
“Time to get equated is during lunch! Which we will have at 12.30. We have a lot to do, and not a lot of time! So if you all please will. ONE, TWO, THREE! And step side, left – right. Arm up!”
once again scrambled to her senses. She realized that there was a lot to do; but she wasn’t even here for five minutes and they were already whipped into shape. She wasn’t even sure where she was suppose to stand until Daniel shuffed her somewhat in front of him but on the same line with the rest of the girls. She did her best to thank him, but once one step was down it was on to the next and time to rest, there wasn’t much.
Not until lunch time arrived anyways.
walked towards her bag out of breath and took a swig of her water and grabbed her towel to wipe some sweat away. “Is it always like this?”
wondered looking at Sophie in disbelief. Sophie laughed and nodded slightly. “Most of the time. I thought you were a professional dancer.”
nodded briefly before taking out her apple. “I am, or was mostly. For 10 years already. They’re very light on younger teens, rules etc. Then when I turned 18 I was doing well, but most of the things I did – we got more time to learn the same amount of things. Or this amount of time but a lot less to learn. Don’t get me wrong, I can keep up – it’s just brutal.”
ended with a laugh, getting a grin off of Sophie. “But if you look at it this way, we already learned 1.5 song this morning.”
nodded taking another bite of her fruit. “Plus, the guys will come around shortly – we’ll re-do the thing so the rest of the girls know their place on the stage and then we will continue with a new dance.”
She noticed she definitely was out of the world for too long. Perhaps three years wasn’t much in a normal life – but in the world of dancing; apparently you miss a lot. “
, are you coming along? We’re just going to the little diner place across the street.”
got back from her thoughts when Daniel called out for her. “Oh yeah. Hold on.” She threw her stuff back in her bag and shrugged it around her shoulder and walked out with the rest of them, throwing the remaining of the apple in the bin right outside the building.
***
“I think the lads are here.” Carrie’s thick Irish accent came through. “How do you know?”
wondered curiously. “Fancy cars.” Drew called out, point at the parking lot. “Right, fancy. My car is crap in comparison.” “Or mine.” Drew replied again. “Let’s just keep smiling with the fact that our dancing is a bit better.” He said as he slang his arm around her shoulder walking into the gym.
grinned and walked into the room where they were in previously, laughing. All that until she saw the blonde she was keen on avoiding.
“Glad you got back to join us. Places, please!” Priscilla’s voice got through, through
’s brain who for a minute or so stood frozen on her spot. “
!” Daniel called out from the other side of the room. “Yes,
. Thank you for paying attention.”
mouthed a sorry and got in her position when Priscilla started shouting numbers out loud again. Sad part about that is, is that
was hardly paying attention anymore and was close to a second behind on every step.
“And again.” Priscilla said, replaying the music.
shot a glance at her, looking confused – but before he knew it, it was time to actually dance. But still for
, things weren’t going too swiftly.
It was him that was making her lose focus. The way he was still as handsome as she remembered, the way his body moved – the way his voice was sounding. And of course the way Georgia was being so close to him because she got partnered with him. “
! Don’t make us all regret hiring you. I know you can do this.” Priscilla came through once again and by now
was beyond frustration.
“What’s wrong?” Daniel asked as he pulled her aside in their 5 minute break they just got given. “This morning you were excellent.”
groaned softly and nodded. “I know, I don’t know why I’m so distracted this afternoon.” Though, she knew perfectly.
felt a pair of
eyes burn right through her from the other side of the room and she dared herself to look back at him and take these few minutes to regain her composure. Of course, that wasn’t easy when the blonde haired male stepped towards her the moment Daniel left her side.
“Here.” His voice broke the silence, holding out a bottle of water.
grabbed it reluctantly and took a sip. They stood in silence for a short while and just as
opened his mouth to speak,
walked away leaving behind a hopeless
.
He walked back to the rest of the guys where
looked at him confused. “What’s up with you,
? I thought you called her?”
nodded in reply. “I did, but I got some guy on the phone. He said he would pass on the message but I suppose he didn’t. She isn’t returning my calls, nor speaking to me right now.”
ran a hand through his hair when Priscilla announced they were going to continue practise. “I’ll try to talk to her later.”
said just before getting back in position.
It was about 6.30 pm when practise had finally ended and
was gathering her stuff in the corner. She was pleased that things went better after their break; but it didn’t take away the annoyance she felt with
. He was probably the first person to ever distract her from the only she was actually good at in life. “
?” another Irish accent whaled through – luckily, not the one who had hurt her. “
, hey.” She smiled kindly, turning around to face him. “I promise I won’t mess up on stage – it’s just a bad day or something.” She added as she bit her bottom lip. “Oh, I wasn’t there for that. I was wondering if we could have a chat.”
shrugged and picked up her bag and followed him out of the gym. “Let’s walk. Hyde park isn’t far off.”
“So, what’s up with you and
?”
asked.
laughed. “You really just get straight to the point.”
nodded with a grin. “So, what is it?” he pushed.
sighed and ran a hand through her hair as she scrambled for words. “Nothing?” Was her first try. “Come on. You’re mad at him – we could all see that.” “If I am, I think that’s something between
and I though.”
was quiet for a little while and they walked along the stone path in silence. The evening sun was still warm but it was getting later and
was ready for some food. “Don’t let anything affect what you do,
.
is like my brother and I wish him only the best – but I cannot watch you eat yourself up because of him.”
nodded to his words, but still didn’t speak. “But because he’s like my brother, I ask you to please talk to him.”
nodded once more, and spoke. “Let’s get some dinner.” Just to bring the conversation on another note.
Maybe he was right though, perhaps she should hear him out. See what he actually has to say that happened last weekend – why he couldn’t call earlier than the next day – or why he simply couldn’t show up. “I’ll see ye tomorrow again.”
said as they reached her car after they got dinner.
nodded and kissed his cheek quickly before getting in. She was absolutely drained and couldn’t wait to get home, take a shower and sleep till the morning would arrive, most likely – way too early.
***
Dancing was getting easier as she kept avoiding
and didn’t take
’s advice at all. It wasn’t until Saturday night when all of the dancers decided to go out that they bumped into the Westlife lads and
was forced to spend time close to
. Perhaps everyone knew about the tension between them; perhaps it was more obvious than either of them thought.
All of the sudden most of the people stood up from the table to go dancing, leaving behind Sophie,
,
and herself.
looked at Sophie but she seemed to be in an intimate conversation with
.
then turned to look at the dance floor trying to find her friends but they were nowhere in sight. That only meant one thing.
“We have to talk
.”
said carefully. “I know.”
’s own words surprised her. She knew they had to talk but she was determent not to admit it.
changed seats and sat down next to her so he could properly hear over the loud music that was playing. “Why didn’t you call me back?” his face was inches apart from hers. His lips barely touching her skin as he spoke into her ear. “You asked me out, after you put in a lot of effort to find me. Which I might add, is probably the nicest thing everyone could ever do – romantic even. And then I was happy to go out with you, looking forward to it. I spent hours making myself look as close to as beautiful as you deserve a girl to be – and then you fail to show up.”
There were more words coming out of her mouth than she intended to happen. Pouring out feelings that she preferred to stay unknown. A look of quilt washed over
’s face. “I was in the studio, I had no connection to call. I did right after we got out.” “Why do you make plans if you know you’re suppose to be in the studio at the same time?” “I didn’t know. It was a late decision for a backing track we need on tour. I didn’t hear until they stood in front of my place ready to take me there.”
sighed quietly. “And all the time you sat in the car driving to that studio – not once did it cross your mind to call me? Or text me? Or.. send me an email? Fax. Have a pigeon fly to me with a note attached to its leg.”
laughed though it wasn’t funny.
chuckled lightly but quickly regained her composure. “I’m sorry,
. I’d really like to make it up to you somehow. If you could please let me.”
looked the other way to find a smiling
and Sophie – she rolled her eyes in return and looked back at
.
“Alright. As long as you show up on time.”
smiled and kissed her cheek; for now he didn’t find it necessary to ask if she ever got the message he left for her that night. He was going to make it up to her.
Chapter 4.
The following morning at 10am
awoke from her slumber. Today was the day that
was going to make it up to her and though she was rather sceptical about him showing up on time, she took her time to dress up nicely for him. It was still July and the summer sun stood proudly above the clouds, beaming warm rays of light down.
put on a light yellow dress once emerged from the shower and blow-dried her hair before applying soft curls and her make-up.
He’d arrive at 11.30 but at 11.20 the doorbell rang and
was curious to see who it was. As long as it wasn’t Jake again having to find more of his stuff. But on the contrary. “
!”
said with a smile as he stood in front of the door. “Hello gorgeous. 10 minutes early even.” He said with a cheeky grin before embracing her in a hug and kissing her cheek. “Aye, nicely done. Let me get my bag and I’m ready for this day of activities.”
“You look beautiful by the way.”
said as they walked outside towards his car. “Thank you, so do you. Handsome. Handsome I mean. sorry.”
said slightly embarrassed.
chuckled. “I could do with being called beautiful.” He winked just before opening the passenger door to her and once she got in he walked to the drivers seat and sat down himself.
“Where are we going?”
wondered shortly after they drove off. “That’s a surprise. Must warn you though that it’s a bit of a drive – but I’m hoping you’ll enjoy it once we’re there.”
looked a little warily but went with it anyway.
He really was handsome though. The way his sunglasses framed his face, or his hair tasselled up. The way the sun hit his arms and how he kept smiling as he watched the road.
felt her cheeks burn when he looked back at her and she realized she had been staring. But he didn’t say anything in reply before he turned his focus back on the driving. “What are ye looking at?”
wondered with a grin when
still didn’t adjust her gaze.
turned the other way, hiding a small smile. “Nothing. Absolutely nothing.”
It was a little less than an hour later that they arrived in Harlow, Essex. “I recognize this.”
mused as she looked at the scenery surrounding her. “Do you?”
asked surprised. “Yeah, this is Harlow. I grew up here. When I was 8 we moved to London where I obviously spent most of my years – parents moved back here 3 years ago. How did you know?”
asked. “I didn’t.”
replied only making
more confused. “Then why are we here?”
grinned and turned a corner parking the car in the improvised parking places next to the fair that was now visible.
“I heard you and Daniel talk the other day. You said how much you liked them but whenever there is one you always manage to miss it. Well, Google serves for more purposes. Apparently this one moves again tomorrow and it was a bit of a drive – but if you would enjoy it.”
got out and walked to the other side to open the door for
who was smiling. “This is a nice surprise! Thank you!” she kissed his cheek the moment of emerging the vehicle. “Come on then.”
held out his arm which
gladly took and they walked on the field where the fair was spread out upon.
It was about two hours later that they run into people
actually knew. People she forgot that could be there the entire time she was with
. He made her forget about a lot of things; the way he spoke stories vividly; hearing all about the Westlife life, even the life he had outside of Westlife. He was in the middle of another tale when a voice struck high. “
! I didn’t know you were in town today.” ,
’s mother, walked through the crowd to her daughter – her father following suit. “Hi mom, I didn’t know either till an hour ago or so.” It was then that
noticed the company. “And who is this young man?”
“Right. Mom, dad. This is
.
– these are my parents.” “
, pleasure to meet you.”
said with a smile. “Pleasure’s all mine Mrs.
.” He spoke in return. “You’re not from around here, are you?” ,
’s dad, noticed.
shook his head. “Ireland, sir. I’m in London for some months work wise.”
“
’s a dancer you know. She will be touring with Westlife soon. Are you sure you can keep up with that?”
said groggily. “Dad, please.” “I’m just saying, you won’t be home a lot. I trust you
, but I need to make sure he knows what he’s up for.” “Dad, this is the first time we went out anywhere.”
tried. “I’m sure things will be fine, Mr.
.”
said with a kind nod. “Alright, before things get any more awkward – we will be off now. It was lovely to see you. mom, dad.”
chimed up kissing their cheeks quickly. “Oh, daddy. Why don’t you get on the internet and Google Westlife. I will call you tomorrow.” With that
took
’s hand and dragged him off towards the Ferris wheel where they got in line.
“Sorry about that. He doesn’t really know who you are I suppose. And he tends to get very protective of me whenever I am with a guy. One time I had to do a school project with a guy, one I was just friends with. Dad doubted that strongly and we were forced to work downstairs where he could keep an eye on us. From then on; I never really brought a guy home with me anymore.”
said with a sigh looking back upon memories. “Never?”
asked in disbelief, wrapping his arm around her waist as they could take a step forward.
“Never.”
said with a nod, leaning into his chest slightly. “Can’t say it’s completely my fault. I offered, but apparently people got scared of my dad. You should have heard the rumours going around.”
chuckled softly under her breath. “What’s that then?” “They said he had hit someone for looking at me wrongly. Lies, don’t worry.”
said after looking at
’s somewhat worried face. “He didn’t seem that bad just then.” “Aye, it’s a Sunday and he’s out with my mom.”
laughed along with
as they took another step forward.
The day passed along rather nicely and at 4 they decided to head back to London for the next step in the programme.
***
“Come on.”
said taking her hand, leading a blind-folded
up some stairs. “This can’t be safe,
.”
said between laughs. “Stop ye complaining and come on.”
laughed and
stumbled on the last step. He quickly took a hold of her and once she was steadied she burst out laughing. “Not safe!” she repeated.
grinned. “We’re almost here.” He kicked open a door with his foot as he continued to lead
through the darkness.
A soft wind hit their cheeks and
smiled satisfied with the look of things. “Alright, you may take the blindfold off.”
did as told and once her eyes adjusted to the light she was met up with the most beautiful few.
They were on a roof top – the sun setting in the distance and before her was a dinner set up. “Where are we?” “On a roof.”
said, leading her towards the table and holding out a chair for her. “I know that captain obvious.”
laughed before sitting down himself. “My apartment building.”
smiled and looked at the plate in front of her – empty. “Dinner will be served in a minute.”
Though, that minute turned into 10, but surely
showed up carrying two bags with food. He winked shortly in
’s direction before leaving again, leaving the bags behind. “Take-out.”
beamed up with a laugh.
“Yes, I hope you weren’t expecting anything fancy – but it’s a Sunday.” He said apologetic, putting containers of Chinese on the table. “This is perfect
, thank you. For everything today.”
smiled as she put chicken on her plate. “The day’s not over yet.” He smiled and began to eat himself. “There’s more?” She wondered curiously.
nodded between bites. “I think you’ll enjoy the last activity the most.” “I doubt anything could be more amazing than the view we have right here.” She spoke as she averted her eyes to the sunset right next to them. “Just wait and see.”
said cheekily.
“We’ll walk the next bit.”
mused thoughtfully sometime later after dinner.
looked at
sceptically but followed him either way. The walk along the streets wasn’t long and then they reached Hyde park. “Hold on.”
mumbled as she rubbed her hands up and down her arms quickly, trying to get some warmth to herself. “Are you cold?”
wondered.
nodded with a smile. “Yes, but look how I’m dressed.” She chuckled before opening her bag. “Sorry, I’m not really wearing anything I can offer you either.” He said as he looked down at his black t-shirt. “No worries. I always come prepared. There’s a reason girls carry around bags of this size.” She said as she picked up a black cardigan and pulled it on.
“You carry clothes around?”
asked in disbelief.
laughed and shook her head as she continued the walk along the stone path. “Depends. If I think I might get cold I put in a cardigan. If I feel like I’m going to spend the night elsewhere after going out in heals – I bring flats. Umbrella on rainy days. Though, we’re in England. That’s almost every day. I always carry around food and water.”
laughed at her explanation. “Right, I should have known that.” He said with a grin.
nodded with a chuckle. “You should have.”
They walked a little further when
suddenly took an halt. “What is it?”
wondered curiously, looking around. “We’re here.” He replied pleased – walking onto the soft grass of the park, taking
along by the waist. “what’s here?”
asked confused. “Our last stop of the day. Dessert.”
was still looking around curiously when all of the sudden her eyes met up with a pick-nick blanket in the middle of a deserted park. “Oh my,
.” She said as he held onto her so she could sit down gracefully.
“Hold on.” He said as he walked towards a tree and then returned holding a bowl with ice cream and two spoons.
grinned and took a hold of the dessert as
sat down as well.
“This might just be the best date I’ve ever been on.” She said with a smile as they laid on the grass later. “I’m glad. I really am sorry for the other day.” He said apologetic. “It’s okay,
. Thank you for today.” She said before kissing his lips.
smiled and wrapped his arm around her as she laid her head on his chest.
Chapter 5.
The next day during dance practise, things went by far more smoothy than they had previously done. Things fell in place quicker, and the quick kisses during their breaks certainly made her feel better about Georgia practically grinding against her boyfriend. She sighed to her own thoughts; Georgia was a lovely girl and that hasn’t changed now she is going out with
– and the dance was hardly vulgar. Plus;
had to bare through the same thing with her and Daniel.
“I can ask if you and Georgia can swap, you know?”
said during their lunch break on a Friday.
shook her head. “No, it’s alright. There were reasons why she got centre stage.” She added a soft chuckle to her words when
neared the table. “Not for you, it’s more you and Daniel.”
said with a careless shrug.
cocked her eyebrow in his direction and walked away to the rest of the dancers. “What was that about?”
asked confused.
shook his head and let a groan escape his lips. “Nothing.” “Trouble in paradise already?”
shot
a look, letting him know not to push it. “Alright, I’m already going.”
In the mean time
took her seat next to Alyssa and Drew. “Hey, you alright?” Drew asked worried in his Dutch accent.
nodded briefly. “Yeah, I’m perfectly fine.” She forced a smile to appear on her face, earning a light hug from Alyssa by her side. “I’ll be in the ladies room when someone needs me.” She suddenly spoke up when she glanced back at
who was still looking remotely angry.
It wasn’t as much the words he said, it was more the way he said it. As if it was fine for him and Georgia to be that close, but Daniel and herself was a completely different case. If this was going to be the way their entire relationship was going to be like, she wasn’t interested in continuing this. “
, are you alright?” Alyssa wondered coming in. She nodded, wiping a tear from her cheek. “
is being a bit of an ass. That’s why people always say never to bring your personal life to work.” Alyssa halfly smiled and cleaned
’s face with some tissue paper. “Let him be,
. It’s not worth your tears over.”
nodded, she agreed with her, but it didn’t make her feel better. She took a deep breath, wiped the remaining tears away and smiled Alyssa’s way. “I think I’ll be fine. Besides, break is almost over, we should head back soon.” Alyssa nodded agreeing and exited the bathroom before
did. But when
did exit
was waiting for her.
She doubted for a moment whether she wanted to talk to him, but there was no avoiding when he opened his mouth.
“
, I’m sorry.”
chuckled softly in reply. “It’s a really good thing that you’ve only recently came into my life. The things Jake had to put up with were far worse than the little touching Daniel and I do. Besides, he’s gay.”
scratched his neck and laughed nervously. “I did not know that.”
laughed at his shocked face. “I guess you didn’t.”
sighed and wrapped his arms around her waist. “Will you forgive me for my stupidity?”
pretended to think for a moment before nodding.
“Maybe I should feel lucky that I am sleeping with the main act, or one of them anyway.” She added with a grin. “Technically, we haven’t actually slept together.”
said, smiling cheekily. “Haven’t we?”
shook his head in reply. “I think we should do something about that..” he added. “Tonight perhaps.” He whispered before kissing her neckline.
giggled and pushed him off her. “We can’t. I’m not allowed to do any physical activities that would deprive my sleep and would take away strength that is needed during my day. Really, I had to sign something.” She nodded eagerly.
looked at her questioningly before
ran off.
“We’re going to be late!” she yelled after her, but
already jogged up next to her. “You truly are something Ms.
.”
smiled and quickly kissed his cheek as they entered the rehearsal room where everyone was waiting for the pair. “Late again,
. Don’t make it habit.” Priscilla said as she waited for her to get in position. “I think that’s my fault.”
spoke up. Priscilla nodded briefly before she did another count down, indicating for everyone to start.
***
“I really just don’t think she likes me.”
stated as
and herself were driving to
’s home that evening. “She does like you, she just doesn’t like the idea of us. – might have to do something with that paper you had to sign.” He replied with a laugh.
stuck her tongue out at him and grinned. “Perhaps.” She took a small break before continuing. “It’s just so confusing. She seemed to like me at first I suppose, but not she just keeps pointing out if I come in a second late. Or when I’m a cm off with my steps. She even manages to point out when I’m not smiling when I have to. It’s like she thinks I’m not professional enough for this job or something.”
ended with a sigh.
squeezed her knee reassuringly before they came to an halt in front of a very nice London home.
“You live here?”
said as she slowly emerged from the car, in awe of a building he called home; that fell into complete shame next to the brunette’s small apartment, mind you – on the other side of London. The far less fancy side of London. “Yeah, it’s home away from home I guess.”
shrugged, grabbing her hand and walking with her to the inside of the house. Which again, was just as beautiful and grant as the outside – at least in comparison.
“Why did you ever come to my home? It’s like a broom closet compared to this place!”
exclaimed once more, not even sure where she was going – but the moment she saw couches and a TV she realized it must be the living room. “Stop admiring, sit down and I’ll get you something to drink.”
said with a chuckle.
pursed her lips for a moment but relaxed in his leather sofa as she watched him walk out the door again.
took in her scenery the fullest, feeling more ashamed by her own home with everything she saw. She knew from the beginning that he probably lived a lot larger than she did; and that he didn’t have his kitchen and living room in the same room. But he had multiple rooms here. Not just his basic rooms separate. He must have office space, spare bedroom space, a music room of some sort. He might just be able to fit a public library in here.
slacked a sigh just before
returned with a glass of wine.
“You alright now?” he wondered as he sat down next to her.
laughed embarrassedly. “Sorry, it’s just – massive.”
smiled slightly before kissing her on the lips. “I miss this during the day.” He said between kisses.
smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck and enjoyed his embrace. He was about to put his hands under her shirt when she let go off him. “What’s wrong?” he wondered, worried and confused at the same time.
“I wasn’t lying about that paper I had to sign. I’m sure that everyone breaks it every once a while, but I can’t afford to lose this job. Professional athletes sign the same papers. It’s not that I don’t want it, I promise. But I just can’t afford to make mistakes when I’m already on a short string with Priscilla.”
ended with a sigh.
was quiet for some time and
refrained from saying anything more that just might ruin anything that was possibly left. “Right.” He finally said. “I didn’t think you were serious about it, but it’s fine.”
smiled reassuringly, taking a sip of his own glass. “You’re not fine with it.”
solemnly stated. “It’s just a little strange hearing that for the coming 6 to 8 months I’m not allowed to sleep with my girlfriend.”
said, still a hint of being confused in his voice.
bit her lip and took a hold of his hand. “I like you,
. And I am patient – and I will wait. I’m just saying that it is a little odd.”
nodded briefly to his words, kissing his hand before leaning back in the couch with a sigh.
This definitely wasn’t the way she expected this evening to go.
Chapter 6.
“Ms.
! Late again.” It was the following morning and
hardly got sleep that night when she finally went home. It wasn’t part of the plan to actually go home, but things didn’t seem to get more comfortable after that one particular conversation.
wasn’t even certain if seeing him later today was going to make things better. They were bound to talk at some point, but would be the rehearsal room – with all those people – be the appropriate place for that?
“I know, I know. I’m sorry. Late night.”
replied, dropping her bag in the corner and quickly getting to her spot. “Excuses,
. Tomorrow be on time!”
rolled her eyes in return and stretched her legs briefly before Priscilla started her count down again.
wasn’t even sure which number they were doing, whether it was something new or something old – but she felt rather blessed when Daniel whispered all the moves in her ear.
When a break finally came up she didn’t hesitate to give him her gratitude. Daniel merely smiled in return. “So, what’s that about a late night?” he wondered the moment when Carrie and Alyssa joined them to get the same answers.
sighed as she took a sip of her water. “Nothing,
and I got in a small argument – again.”
very realized that this wasn’t the first time that they shared words over something as utterly irrelevant. And she truly wondered whether it was worth the arguments over. “Let’s not talk about it ‘kay?” she added with a small smile. The three around her nodded. “But don’t be late again,
. Priscilla is this close to firing you and I don’t want to do this tour without you.” Alyssa quickly squeezed
’s hand when the four lads walked in the room.
bit her bottom lip but smiled either way when her gaze met
’s.
“Hey.” She mumbled before she received a kiss on her cheek. “Before you say anything, can it wait? Because I got in late again this morning, and Priscilla is on the verge of killing me. I need to nail this afternoon rehearsal or I’m literally dead.”
nodded. Kissed her briefly on the lips and walked back to his band mates.
merely sighed and took another sip of her water. “Relationships suck.” She mumbled with a chuckle. Daniel smiled apologetic and walked back to their spot, dragging
with him.
It were a few hours and a few short breaks later when practise was over.
was drinking the last big of her water as she bid goodbye to her fellow dancers when
came up to her again. “You were great this afternoon.” He said with a smile. “Thank you, love. I had to be.”
simply laughed and took a moment to kiss her passionately. “Look, I’m sorry about last night. I need you to know that I care a great deal about you and I’m willing to be very patient for you.”
wrapped his arms around her waist and smiled slightly. “And, I need you to know that you are quite possibly the most beautiful girl in the world.” He kissed her quickly before continuing. “And your lips are very kissable.”
grinned when she spotted Priscilla walking over.
“Hey.”
said, making
turn around and letting go of her in the process. “
,
.” Priscilla said in return.
made a small hello nod in reply. “
, can I talk to you for a moment? – In private?”
nodded unsurely, but followed her either way. When they’ve created some distance between
, who was the last person in the room, and themselves – Priscilla stumbled over her words for a moment. “I just want to let you know not to take it personal what I’m about to say.”
nodded once more. “Okay, yeah – What is it?” she added. “Alright, You know how Kathryn had a double booking and therefore we picked you?” Priscilla asked, hoping
would realize where she was going with this. But
merely nodded.
Priscilla sighed and continued. “Kathryn called with the management, said that she’s available for hiring again and sadly they have chosen to get her back in. Meaning that we have to let go of you. It wasn’t my decision, I promise. Despite our differences, you are a terrific dancer
.” Priscilla smiled apologetically before walking off.
wasn’t sure whether she was suppose to cry or not. She was sad, her last hope just gotten taken away from her – of course she was sad. But a part of her realized that things might be better this way.
She slumped down slightly and hugged
tightly when he put his hand on her shoulder. He simply wrapped his arms around her body, not even sure what was going on.
still didn’t cry, she just needed the feeling that everything was going to be alright despite of this. It might be a tougher break on
. Perhaps she might realize what a waste
was to the agency and dismiss her as well.
took a deep breath and untangled herself from
. “Let’s go home.” She said with a uncertain smile.
nodded, grabbing her bag from the floor when
was already half-way outside. He threw both their bags in the trunk of his car before opening the door for her to get in. He got in at the driver’s side and drove to his place.
“Are you now going to tell me what Priscilla had to say?”
wondered sometime later when they were both settled in his living room. “She fired me.”
said slightly confused. “What? How did that happen? Is it because you were late this morning? It doesn’t take away from your skills, you know – and it was probably my fault that you were late in the first place. Would you like me to make a call? I think I should be able to pull something.”
rambled.
shook her head with a laugh. “No, it’s quite alright. Kathryn is back in town. Management hired her again, it wasn’t even in her hands.”
It was quite for a short while. “Actually, I got a call a few days ago with another job offer. I told them no at the time, but I think if I call them back I’ll still have a shot. I mean, it would mean going back to teaching. But this time I’ll be teaching future professionals.”
continued. “You sure you don’t need me to make a call, talk to the management. I can put in the ultimatum for you, you know?”
tried again.
laughed. “No, I’m sure. It’s okay. I’ve gained something far better from this journey than the ending of my professional dancing career. The school I went to when I was young is asked me whether I wanted to return, it’ll be somewhat familiar ground. They saw me do swan leg on the west end, they were impressed – or so they said. I’m going to do that for a while, be with you in the mean time. I won’t be with you on tour – but I’ll visit.”
said reassuringly with a smile.
seemed lost for a moment and nodded briefly.
“I just thought that this is what you wanted?” He spoke up a short while later.
nodded slowly. “It was. Lord knows I was disappointed when they chose the six girls and I wasn’t part of them. And then when I heard about Kathryn and they wanted me to fill her place; I was very happy. And I enjoyed it, I really did. And the people I got to work with and meet were lovely. But I can be with you, all of you, and do something else I love and let Kathryn take back her rightful place.”
smiled once more to her own words.
Truth be told, she would miss it more than she let on. But the new job offer came with great timing. She was good at teaching and she certainly enjoyed the contact with the people, helping them achieve dreams. And these dancers were probably going to be even more driven than those she taught ballet in a very local dance school.
always equalled change with something good; even if it was for the mere reason of staying positive.
She wasn’t sure how her relationship with
was going to work out this way. As long as he wasn’t touring things should be sort of easy, but once that all begins and probably after he’d love to go back to his home in Sligo.
sighed briefly. “Let’s just look at this positive, okay?”
nodded in reply. “Alright. Let me get you home.” He kissed her hands before helping her up and then leading her back to his vehicle. “Rehearsals really won’t be the same without you.”
Chapter 7.
“Happy birthday, gorgeous.”
said before kissing her softly on the lips.
opened her eyes to meet up with his
ones and she smiled sheepishly. “I don’t want to get older.” She pouted.
laughed as
sat up in bed. “You have a long way to go if you already resent aging.” He said with a grin. She shook her head. “It’s not that. Every year I get older is a year further away from the age professional dancers are preferred to be. Other than that, I like getting old. A year closer to someday be a decent aged grandmother.” She kissed
briefly before he handed her his present.
“Well, I don’t think my present is suited for a grandmother, but I do hope you will wear it to your not-so-surprise-party-anymore.”
chuckled and undid the ribbon. “It’s not my fault you lot are bad at keeping secrets.” She mumbled as she revealed a beautiful deep blue dress. “Oh my, this is beautiful.”
held it up in front of her and examined the piece of clothing in awe. “And only part 1 of your presents today. Now, if you will do me the honour of joining me in the shower.” He held out his hand as he got up.
smiled cheekily and put the dress aside before grabbing his hand. “Do realize that showering together usually takes up more time than doing things separately.”
nodded in reply. “But it is a lot more fun.” He mumbled just before crashing his lips on hers.
laughed and followed him to the shower.
Some time later they both got out, got dressed quickly because they were suppose to meet
’s family for lunch. “I’m really glad you want to come with today,
.”
said with a smile, putting her earrings on. “I’d love to meet your family, again.” He said in return. “I’m sure my father will be a little more kind today.”
“Happy 25th darling!”
exclaimed happily when they met up at the restaurant for lunch. “Hi mom, thank you.” She hugged her parents quickly before sitting herself down. “So, how does it feel being another year older?”
wondered, before taking a sip of his drink.
shrugged before replying. “I do not feel any different. I think it stops the moment one turns 21 – and it might start again when I turn 29. The years in between are feeling, thus far, the same.”
took a sip of her water when
spoke up confused. “Why will it start again at 29?” “Because that’s one year away from being 30. Great if you have your life figured out – if not, it will feel bad. But that’s just my opinion on the matter, I have no personal experience. But I will let you know when I get there.”
chuckled when a waiter came up to them, wondering if they were ready to order.
shook her head and picked up the menu that was laying on the table. As she was going through various dishes her parents filled in their order already – even
who seemed familiar with this establishment. After a little while there were 8 eyes burning on her and she realized that they were all waiting for her. “I’ll just have the chicken sandwich please.” She said with a timid smile. “Anything to drink, ma’am.” The waiter wondered. “Just an ice-tea would be fine, thank you.” The waiter nodded in return and walked off.
“So, mom. Are you and dad coming to my surprise party tonight?”
wondered when she got bored to listening to her father and
talk. “No, sweetie. Your father and I have tickets to the theatre.” “On my birthday?”
shrugged shortly. “They came from
’s work and when
asked us to come, we realized that you had plans anyway. Therefore, this lunch.”
nodded with a smile.
smiled when the waiter came, she didn’t even realize how hungry she was until she set her teeth in her sandwich.
“That wasn’t very bad, was it?”
wondered an hour later when they were walking through town. “No, your father seems to like me. He even apologized for not recognizing me.”
said, wrapping his arm around shoulder. “That’s nice of him. Did he say anything about me losing my job?”
wondered, leaning her head on him. “He told me to fix it. That even though you say that it’s okay, it’s not. So really, if you want me to fix it – please tell me. ‘Cause I really want you to be happy.” He kissed her temple and
smiled. “It really is okay,
. Promise.”
smiled satisfied. “Alright. Ready for another present then?”
looked at him a little sceptically, but nodded. “There you go.” He took out a small box from his coat pocket and handed it to her.
stopped walking and carefully took of the lit. She got met up with a beautiful silver bracelet. “Oh my,
! Thank you!” she wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him passionately in the middle of the street.
grinned. “You’re welcome. There is also something in your purse, I’m surprise you haven’t found it yet.”
looked confused, but opened up her purse either way, to reveal another box. This time slightly bigger as the one she got handed earlier.
“When did you put this in here?” she wondered, taking it out. “This morning when you were getting dressed. You bring all this stuff with you and yet you don’t give it a second look.
chuckled and took off the lit again. Inside was a silver necklace, much like her bracelet. She smiled and kissed
again with as much passion as she could muster. “This is all too much,
.” She said when they parted.
shook his head and took the piece of jewellery out of the box, putting it around her neck.
looked at her reflection in the shop window. “It’s beautiful, thank you
.” She kissed him again quickly before the continued their walk through town.
***
“You look beautiful.”
said with a smile the moment she opened the door.
roamed her eyes over
’s body, quite pleased with what she saw. “You don’t look too bad yourself,
.”
grinned in reply and kissed her lips passionately. “So, you’ve been rehearsing your surprised face?” He wondered as
shrugged on her coat and put the last items in her purse. “Yes, I have actually.” She scraped her throat as she took a comfortable stand and then put up her surprise face. “For me!? This is such a surprise!”
called out excitedly, though obvious it wasn’t real emotion. “It’s a good thing you didn’t decide to become an actress.”
said with a laugh.
poked out her tongue and grabbed his hand, leading him out the door.
“I wouldn’t have to do this if everybody was a little better at keeping secrets.”
said with a shrug before getting in the car. “Where is this party anyway?” she added the moment
was sat as well. “’s. Ever since got pregnant she takes on every opportunity to organize anything.
was this close to hiring her for stage design this tour.”
said with a smile.
chuckled. “I’m excited.”
A little while later they arrived at another one of London’s finest houses. “And I thought you lived big.”
muttered getting out of the vehicle in awe. “Aye, now. Go act surprised – you’re clueless as to why you’re here.”
said, wrapping his arm around her waist. “Doesn’t everybody know by now that I know already?”
wondered, walking the steps to the front door. “Surely, but we can still pretend.”
chuckled in reply when
opened the door and lead her through the hallway. “This would be so much easier if the guy didn’t have a hallway.” She whispered softly, but still she got hushing sounds from
.
“SURPRISE!” Instead of doing anything she rehearsed, she merely laughed. After quite some time she finally mustered out words. “This is so unexpected!”
laughed and kissed her temple before walking off to his fellow band mates.
“You must be
.”
said as a girl with long hair walked up to her. “How’d you know?” “Well, you’re the only one here with a pregnant belly.”
chuckled in return. “I guess that gives it away. Welcome to our home, I hope you enjoy the party.”
smiled kindly and kissed her cheek before she walked off again.
took this moment to take it all in. The people, most of which she didn’t exactly know – but their fellow dancers, or in her case, ex-fellow dancers.
was even able to track down some of her friends that she hadn’t introduced to him yet. Everybody was chatting among themselves, some were even dancing on the created dance-floor as
went to the kitchen to get something to drink. “Hey,
. Happy birthday!” Carrie and Daniel said simultaneously.
hugged both of them quickly. “Thank you, thank you.” “Missed you at rehearsals today.” Daniel said with a pout. “Sorry, But you get to dance with Kathryn now.”
said before taking a sip from her wine.
“It isn’t nearly as much fun, I promise you. She has to learn all the routines we already practised and then she gets mad at me because I go too fast. I do not understand why they replaced you at this point. It’s insane trying to get her up to speed.” Daniel said with a sigh. “It’ll be alright. I’ll come visit you guys when tour starts, I promise.” Daniel and Carrie smiled, kissed her cheek and walked off as
and
neared her.
“You should go out there, enjoy your party.”
said, taking her by the arm and leading her back to the living room. “I will, thank you both for coming.”
smiled, hugging them quickly before joining her boyfriend on the dance floor.
The evening ended in the late hours of the night and once everybody was gone,
and
started putting her presents in the car. “I’m exhausted.” She mumbled as she picked up the last packages. “It was a great party though.”
chimed in.
nodded and hugged
with her free arm. “Thank
for this lovely party,
.”
nodded and kissed her cheek quickly before shaking
’s hand and letting them out of his house.
“No, let’s go home! The birthday girl wants some sleep.”
said, relaxing in the car seat. “Technically, it’s not your birthday anymore.” He said with a chuckle, getting out of the driveway. “But, we can still pretend.”
tried. “No, ma’am.”
said sternly, yet with a smile. “Alright, fine. Then I suppose I do not have to thank you for my presents anymore. Because under all this beautiful blue fabric is something you might have enjoyed more than the birthday cake. But if it’s not my birthday anymore, well – I suppose we’ll have to wait till yours. And, oh, that isn’t for another 3 months.”
laughed and took
’s hand in his. “We can pretend a little while longer.” He said cheekily.
grinned. “I thought so.”
Chapter 8.
rushed home from another day at her newest job and was running late for her date with
. A part of her thought things weren't going to be as hard as they were now. Such as getting ready for evenings out on time, knowing how rehearsals went. Even keeping up with friends was hard these days.
She sighed as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was slicked back into a tight bun and she was wearing her normal ballet clothes. Her face was flushed, despite the make-up and
figured a shower would be her safest bet right now.
The moment she emerged she had a mere 15 minutes to get dressed and look presentable. Quickly she threw on a dress and started blow-drying her hair as she put on make-up. She was pinning her hair up when the doorbell rung. Stumbling along the way as she put her shoes on she opened the door
merely smiled as he saw her. It was like they hadn't seen eachother in weeks though it was only three days. "You look amazing."
said the moment
opened the door. “Thank you, you’re looking quite handsome yourself.”
kissed her lips softly. “I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages.” He added.
nodded and lead him to the living room. “Would you like anything to drink?”
wondered, pouring herself a glass of wine. “I can go for some wine, thank you.”
smiled.
nodded and poured another glass for him before returning to his side on the couch.
“So, are you feeling ready for the tour?”
wondered as they stared absent mindedly at the TV for some time. “Yeah, dress rehearsals are going well. Stage is looking great, dancers know their jobs. Backing tracks are made. Set lists are made. I think we’re pretty much set for next Friday.”
smiled satisfied. “Friday? I thought tour started on Saturday?”
asked surprised. “No, Friday, love.”
replied. “But there is a recital on Friday. I promised the kids I’d be there.”
muttered as she sat up. “It’s okay,
. There are a lot of dates in this tour. This is just one of them.”
sighed, though knowing that
didn’t exactly mean what he just said. In the beginning of their relationship he had told her how important opening nights were for him. Usually his parents got out to the opening night, Especially since they were starting in Dublin, Ireland. That was far more near than London was.
sighed again. “I’m sorry.” She bit her bottom lip and rested her head on
’s chest. “If I’d known, I would have been there.” She added. “It’s Ok, love. Promise.” He kissed the top of her head and ran his arm up and down hers soothingly. “We’ll get you there for the next one.”
***
If only either had known that it didn’t stay with just one missed concert. All the while Westlife was touring in Ireland
didn’t have the time to get up and visit, see one of their shows. Instead she had to settle with the pictures in magazines of her boyfriend that seemed happy without her. There was even something off when she came to their London show.
She cared for him far more than she thought she was capable off and seeing him made all those nights missing him worth while. Even he was happy, they kissed with so much passion they didn’t think was possible. But they both very well realized that once they parted in the evening, the chances of seeing eachother for some time were limited.
They had their separate lifes. It didn’t matter how much they cared for eachother at that point.
was touring their country, doing everything that made Westlife, Westlife – and
, well,
was tight up in London doing something she loved, but restricted her immensely from seeing him.
There was so much more to professional dancing than she had first thought. She had gone to the school she was now teaching at, but she had forgotten to how many plays her teachers went with, how many late night classes they had taught. And now it was all her that was doing that for someone else.
Westlife’s tour was long over and
hoped every day of running into him in town of London by accident. But then the holiday season came and she was certain he was back home in Ireland, spending it with those closest to him.
had prayed for him. Prayed for both of them, that somehow they could reunite and at least figure out if he was the right person to get this upset over. Perhaps it still hadn’t fully dawned on her that he was gone. She hadn’t shed a tear, she hadn’t spent days in bed missing him. In her mind she was still in a relationship with him, they just spent some time apart because their families lived in different countries.
But she knew differently when the first reports of him with a new lady came around. Worst part of it all was that she very well knew who he was holding. Georgia Hennessey was after all the one with her legs around him every day during rehearsals. She cursed herself from trusting them, that it was only going to stay with dance.
Somehow even after that tough break she managed to pick herself up. This time she had cried, this time she had called in sick from work and stayed in bed simply missing him. She wasn’t sure what went wrong, why neither fought harder to keep their relationship alive. But it had been over a year now she last saw him. That she had last kissed him. That she had last spent in his embrace. And she had to move on like every other sane person would.
But then again, she couldn’t quite wrap her mind around things when Westlife released yet a new album and tour dates were starting to spill. She didn’t even fully realize that she agreed to go to one of their concerts with her newest friends she met at her new job. They didn’t know the past she shared with one of the guys.
wasn’t even sure what she was thinking the moment she caught his eyes. He was on stage singing songs that all sounded new to her and there were far less dancers required this time. And it was actually enjoyable watching him. Despite all of what happened.
didn’t blame him for them breaking apart. It merely just happened; like on agreeable note of both parties. Except that both parties didn’t exactly get notified nor did they attempt anything to stop it.
was just as much to blame as he was.
Worst part of it was, was that a part of her quit the job so she could be with
; all of
. And not just the
she was going to make out with. It happened, surely they shared the same bed several times before things got too complicated. Before she got whisked off to performances, rehearsals – anything. And then his tour started. Without her.
smiled brightly her way when he spotted her. It’s like she never left and the year apart never happened. She still managed to stand out in a sea full of people; and all he wanted to do was run off stage and embrace her like he had never done before. Then take her home and never make her leave. He wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice.
The concert lasted longer than it had ever done and
was relieved when he could announce the last song. He didn’t even know how fast he had to get off stage and find her. He didn’t even bother getting out of his stage suit, he immediately ran outside where people told him that she had gone too.
And then he saw her, walking away from him just like the last time he had seen her. “
?” he called out. She turned around swiftly, smiling slightly as he jogged up to her and hugged her tight. “What are ye doing here?” he wondered when he let go.
bit her bottom lip thoughtfully. “You.” On
’s face spread a massive grin and he once again took her in his arms. “Don’t ever go, again.”
“It’s been over a year,
.”
whispered in his embrace. No matter how much she would like to deny the fact that this man had no further in pact on her. She knew it was inevitable. Seeing him again after their splitting; smelling his scent, feeling his breath tickle against her skin as he hugged her hello. And then once more telling her to never go again. “That doesn’t mean that not a day has passed by and I have not thought of you.”
tried, holding her face in his hands. “I love you,
. And I refuse to leave without you this time.” He slowly brought his lips to her and
simply caved.
She didn’t have the strength to say no and pull away. She didn’t want to say no and pull away. No, she belonged with him, she – and even he – was certain of that the moment they met and his voice rung in her ear asking whether she was the ballet teacher or not. “Then don’t.”
finally managed to breathe out.
smiled once more, kissed her again before taking her hand in his and walking back inside the venue – together.
