Waking from the rays of the sun shinning into the room she blinked feeling the banging in her head, the sting of her eyes. The sun was once again rising and here she was alone with a broken heart. She’d cried herself to sleep again something she’d done every night for the past two weeks. Pulling herself from the bed she showered and dressed, no matter how much she wanted to curl up in a ball in a dark corner of the world, work still called her name.
Making her way down to the restaurant she grabbed a cup of coffee to wake her up, seeing that none of the guys were around she walked across the room to the large windows looking out over the city, watching the sun rise on the new day.
wandered into the restaurant seeing the familiar figure he quietly approached her, cup of coffee in hand. “Another beautiful day.” He spoke startling her out of the daze she was in.
“I guess.” She sighed taking a sip from her cup. “It’s just another day in my book.” She said not daring to look at him.
looked aside at her, he could see the sadness in her eyes; he just didn’t know what was causing it. She’d been acting different lately, she seemed to be going through the motions, her smile forced, she barely talked to him or the rest of the guys; spent her days off locked away in her room, made excuses not to join them for dinner or drinks. When she was around them she hung around at the back of the room or on the wall, she seemed to be carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.
“Want to talk about it?” He asked sensing something was on her mind.
Slowly she turned to face him, not sure if he was the one she should be talking to about all this.
motioned to the chairs just behind them. Numb she turned to the chair taking a seat as
sat beside her ready to listen to whatever it was she wanted to talk about as she flashed back to that night two weeks ago…
Standing backstage she watched and listened to the show taking place. The vibrating of her phone in her pocket broke her attention, taking it she saw a new text had been received from Jeffrey. A smile lit up her face seeing his name. Scrolling to the message she read it, her heart breaking as she read those dreadful words, we need to talk, meet me at Mickey’s midnight. In a daze she watched the rest of the show wondering what he could possibly want to talk about, they were fine, hell he’d proposed three months ago!
Once the show was over and the lads were safe and accounted for she took a cab to the pub. Filled with fear and dread she entered the pub, looking around for him until she found him. He waved her over a drink waiting for her.
“What’s going on?” asked sitting down on the stool across the table from him getting straight to the point.
“I’m sorry babe.” He spoke. “But…it’s just not working between us.”
“What do you mean?” she asked tears filling her eyes as her heart broke into a million pieces.”If it’s my job we can work it out.” She pleaded.
“It’s not that… I just don’t love you the way I once did…there’s someone else.” He spoke.
Standing he stood beside her, gently he kissed her cheek. “Goodbye.” He whispered before disappearing from her life.
Sniffing back her tears she ran from the pub finding the first cab she could she returned to the hotel, scurrying quickly through the lobby hoping if the lads were about they wouldn’t see or find her, they were the last thing she needed right now. Frantically she pushed the button for the lift every second drawing her closer to the breakdown she was already headed for. Choking back her tears she took the lift to the floor their rooms were situated on as the doors opened she ran down the hall to her room, once safely inside with the door closed hastily, she slid down the wall landing in a heap on the floor, sobbing her heart out until she could no longer cry and as the sun rose the next morning she’d put on her best face and went about the day like nothing had happened, but deep inside she was aching.
sat watching her, quietly drinking his coffee; he could see the turmoil in her head. He couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t open up to him, they’d been close friends since that day four years ago when she took the job as their PA, they’d spent so much time together, shopping, hanging out backstage, laughs shared, late nights talking about life. He’d loved her from that day, only to find his heart breaking when he discovered she was seeing someone, the same someone who had proposed to her three months ago, putting a dagger in his heart, but no matter what, he still loved her.
In so many ways I tried to reach you
And I don’t know why I couldn’t get through
When I tried so hard to break your guard
Didn’t know it would leave this scar
Leave this scar
Now I’ve made it this far
And the pain isn’t over
But the sun keeps on risin’
“,
, we’ve got to go.” A voice broke into their thoughts.
“Right, radio interview.”
said shooting up from her chair, straightening her skirt, instantly taking on role of PA.
gave a sigh; he had been so close to getting her to open up to him. When would he have the chance to talk to her alone again? She’d been avoiding him at all costs lately.
The morning progressed with the radio interview, a few magazine interviews followed by lunch, which
had spent in silence until someone asked that fateful question.
“When’s Jeffrey coming back to visit? Haven’t seen him in awhile.” asked.
The color drained from
’s face as she realized she’d have to tell them sooner or later and she chose the latter. “He’s busy with work.” She lied taking a drink from her glass.
watched her face and body language; he saw the shaking of her hand as she reached for the glass on the table. He needed to get her alone and soon; he had to know what was going on.
Sound check found
pacing the floor she tried to block out the song, she’d heard it so many times over the last two weeks; it was driving her crazy! “God what’s happening to me?” She asked herself stopping dead in her tracks she looked back at the four handsome, charming and caring men stood on the stage before the microphones singing their hearts out. She’d always loved the band and their music, but over the last two weeks every love song had tore at her heart, making her hate love even more. Not able to handle it anymore she rushed out of the arena, tears filling her eyes. Frantically she ran through the backstage halls in search of a room where she could be alone.
“Ok I can’t do this any more.”
spoke causing the band to stop and the guys to look at him confused. “Something’s up with
, I’m going to check on her.” He informed walking off stage he made his way back stage. “Has anyone see
?” he asked the workers wandering about. Receiving a few nods and directions he headed that way, coming to a small hallway with a few rooms he stood quietly listening for any sounds of her. Hearing the sobs from behind one of the doors he approached it, nervously he raised his hand to it, knocking gently. “
, open the door babe, talk to me please.” He pleaded in a soft voice.
Wiping away her tears she stood, slowly opening the door, blushing embarrassed by her actions. She turned her head to the side looking away from his as he stepped into the room
“, what’s going on?”
asked taking her hand in his he led her towards a couch, sitting down beside her. “Did something happen with Jeff?”
The tears fell again hearing his name as a loud sob escaped her. Wrapping his arms around
,
pulled her to his chest trying to console the sobbing girl. “He broke up with me.” She cried through her tears.
“Why?” Asked
totally shocked. Lifting her chin he forced her to look at him, everything made perfect sense now.
“He said he didn’t love me anymore, that there was someone else.” She croaked.
“He’s an idiot.”
spoke brushing her tears away with his thumb. “How long ago did this happen?”
“Two weeks.” She mumbled.
“Why didn’t you tell me or come to me?” He asked gently, shocked at the revelation but at the same time he felt a bit of happiness that Jeffrey hadn’t gotten the girl he so badly wanted.
“I don’t know.” She whispered looking away from him.
“You didn’t have to do this on your own.”
informed her lifting her chin once again.
“It hurts so much
…I…I…I just don’t know what to do.” She cried at a loss for words or how she should act and feel.
“First thing to do, you’re going to let me help you through this. No more keeping this hidden away, it’s ok to hurt babe and every day will get easier.” He assured her. “Second thing you’re going to do is get rid of every reminder of him including the engagement ring.” He instructed.
Looking down at her hand
whimpered softly, hesitantly she gently pulled the ring from her finger feeling her heart breaking into even more pieces.
“I know it hurts.”
spoke softly. “But it will get better.” Holding his hand out he wrapped his fingers around the ring as she placed it in his hand, breaking down into tears once more. “If you ever need me just call
, I don’t care what time of day or night it is.”
I still feel the pain
I heard the sound of a broken heart
It still beats the same
When will my world start spinnin’
And what happened to my happy endin’
Learning it what it takes to turn this page
Didn’t know how to walk away
Walk away
The next few months passed by with
by
’s side, every day he helped her move on with life, slowly mending her broken heart, he got her back into her life, brought the smile back to her face. They spent days talking, shopping or sight seeing with their evenings spent going to movies, having dinner or hanging out in their hotel rooms. He spent many nights holding her as she cried tears, but each night the tears dried quicker than the night before. The lads had been informed of the breakup by
and had offered support in their own ways, mostly by bringing laughter back to her life and a comforting hug.
“So I’ve got an idea.”
said looking at
as they all sat around eating dinner before the night’s show.
“And what would that be?” asked
intrigued.
“I think you need to take the night off from being PA and just enjoy the show…front row.” He grinned.
Having spent so much time with her over the last few months he’d seen her regaining her trust in love again, he knew tonight would be the perfect night for her to be out in the crowd. The guys nodded their heads in agreement accompanied by big smiles.
“I don’t know guys…” She said feeling a bit uneasy about it.
“It’ll do you good.” assured. “Let your hair down and have some fun.”
“Alright.”
nodded. “But who will keep me company up there?” she asked.
“You’ll have our attention all night.” Winked .
Standing in the front row of the arena that night
found herself on cloud nine, it felt amazing feeling so free dancing and singing along with the fans, she felt great! The extra attention she received from the lads was an added bonus, the smiles and winks, a little serenade here and there. Listening to the ballads didn’t hurt anymore, as she stood listening to the guys sing she found herself drawn to
, the handsome man her heart had at secretly yearned for since the moment she laid eyes on him. That familiar warmth was back in her tummy as she gazed at him, was her heart finally ready to love again?
had watched her all night, the smile on her face told him she was ready to move on, she hadn’t cried for Jeff in weeks. Taking one of the roses for the song from the vase he approached the edge of the stage standing before her he held it out to her, giving her his famous, warm smile as he sang to her and only her…
Now I’ve made it this far
And the pain isn’t over
But the sun keeps on risin’
And I keep getting stronger
I never thought I’d survive you
But I will be free
There’ll be so many nights I gotta get through
But now I see
You’ll never be the end of me (no)
Cause when my world fell apart
And I didn’t know where to start
I heard the sound of a broken heart.
Blushing
took the rose from him.
gave her a wink which set the butterflies lose in her stomach, her heart skipped a beat, telling her it was time to move on, that everything was going to be alright, with
by her side.
That night after the show everyone made their way back to the hotel.
invited
to his room for a drink wanting to know how she’d enjoyed the show, wondering if she felt the same feelings he had. Grabbing drinks from the mini bar he sat down beside her on the couch offering her one.
“Enjoy the show?”
asked as she took the can of coke from him.
“Yeah, I did.” She nodded smiling. “I felt so alive, so free tonight.”
“Good.”
smiled nodding. Looking towards the floor he contemplated making a move. Silence surrounded them for a few moments. Lifting his head he looked back at her seeing her adjust her body to face him.
“
, I need to tell you something.” He whispered.
“Ok.” She whispered back feeling nervous.
Taking her hand in his
looked down at it before looking back up at her beautiful face. “I love you.” He confessed. “And I don’t know if you’re ready to be with me or if you even want to, but…”
“I love you too
.”
confessed interrupting him feeling suddenly shy in his presence.
Sharing a smile with her
leaned forward kissing her softly, taking it slowly with her. Feeling her return the kiss he caressed her lips with his moving his hands to her waist as he glided his tongue across her lips. Parting her lips
allowed the kiss to grow deeper until they pulled apart to catch their breath. Breathing heavily they stared at one another.
“Stay with me tonight?”
asked. “Let me hold you.”
nodded, there was nothing more she wanted then to be in his arms, safe and sound. Standing
offered her his hand, pulling her from the couch he led her to the bed, pulling her close he kissed her softly, trailing kisses down her neck feeling her relax in his arms, her arms wrapping around his neck succumbing to him.
“
… wait.” She gasped as he began to unbutton her shirt, his hands sliding beneath it, fingertips running across her soft skin.
Placing his hands on her waist he held her gaze, seeing the uncertainty held in them.
“I’m sorry…but I’m not ready.” She whispered shyly, embarrassed she looked away from him.
“Sweetheart.”
spoke gently, placing his finger beneath her chin he persuaded her to look at him. “It’s ok.” He smiled warmly pecking her lips. “I just want you beside me tonight.” He assured her. “Let me find you some clothes.”
Moving towards his suitcase he rummaged through it finding a clean t-shirt for her to wear. “Here you go.” He said handing her the folded shirt.
“Thank you.”
whispered. Shyly she made her way to the bathroom, quickly slipping out of her clothes she slipped the t-shirt over her head, a cozy, excited feeling filling her body as she inhaled his scent. Stepping out of the bathroom she placed her clothes on a nearby chair finding
already in bed waiting for her…shirtless, which caused her tummy to flip once more, damn he looked good!
“Come here love.” He smiled patting the empty spot beside him. Crawling in beside him she felt him pull her closer to him, melting her like butter. Resting her head on his chest she released a sigh of relief, it felt too right being this close to him. “Sleep well darling.” He whispered kissing her temple.
Next morning
lay perfectly still and content watching her sleep peacefully beside him. He couldn’t remember a time when he’d felt so alive and complete. Through the night she’d managed to wrap her leg between his, bringing them that much closer to each other. Feeling her stirring beside him he waited patiently for her to open her beautiful blue eyes, watching them flutter open his heart skipped a beat as a beautiful smile graced her face.
The sun’s rays woke
from her slumber, slowly the memories of the night before flashed through her mind, setting the butterflies lose once again. Slowly opening her eyes she smiled finding herself cuddled up to
’s warm body, his arm wrapped around her. She found herself feeling complete, all thoughts of Jeff a distant memory, the pain that he’d left her with a small pang compared to the feelings
ignited in her which succeeded at drowning it out, for the first day in a long time she didn’t yearn for another, she had exactly what she needed right beside her. Squeezing him as she pushed her body closer to his she placed a kiss upon his shoulder.
“Morning love.” His husky voice greeted her.
“Thank you.” She smiled kissing his cheek as she laid her head back down on his chest gently running her fingers across his stomach.
“For what?” he asked giving her a squeeze.
“Mending my broken heart… showing me that I can love again.” She spoke softly.
“Every day you’ve gotten stronger babe, the sun has risen and you’ve made it through. A part of you will always love him there’s no denying that, but I know that I can love you better and make you happier.” He told her honestly.
“And I couldn’t be happier.”
smiled leaning in she placed her lips on his, kissing him softly as a new day dawned she was moving on…and it felt great!
And I won’t stay down; I know my heart’s still beating
Cause I hear the sound, tellin’ me I’m alright
Tellin’ me to move on.
