Standing at the car rental desk waited as the man behind the desk helped the person stood before her. She’d been in Dublin since the day before, having flown in from London to surprise her boyfriend for his birthday. She was calm and collected on the outside but on the inside she was nervous as could be, her stomach was in knots with the occasional flutter of butterflies at the thought of what she had planned for tonight, the only thing that concerned her was how he’d react to her surprise.

“Next please.” Called the man behind the counter. stepped forward. “Name?” asked the man looking at her.

  “.” She replied.

The man found the paperwork with her name upon it. “Ok miss, just sign and date here.” He informed pointing to the line as he placed the paper before her. did as the man asked before he handed her the keys to the rental car.

“Thank you.” She smiled taking the keys from him and headed out the door to the lot where her ride awaited her. Quickly she found the black BMW that had been reserved for her. Placing her bags in the backseat she climbed into the front. Taking her phone from her purse she sent a text to Nicky, informing him that she had the car and was on her way, the cue for him to set the plan into motion.

“Tonight will be a night to remember Ki.” She smiled starting the car.

Waking from the sounds of the birds chirping on the beautiful spring day Kian let out an annoyed moan as the images of her and him together rolling around on the beach slowly faded away. Rolling to his side rubbing his eyes he opened them slightly, stretching his arms above his head while at the same time stretching his legs. The sun was shinning brightly in the crystal clear blue sky, a few white puffy clouds floating by. Looking at the clock he sighed, it was just after 8am and yet he was awake, with nowhere to be and no work commitments to fill and yet he had no one to cuddle with.  It was just another birthday, his golden birthday at that, but to him it just meant he was another year older and this time he was only a year away from that dreaded number 30.

Seeing the picture of him and sat on the beside table next to the clock, he couldn’t help but smile but at the same time feel his heart sink, he wanted so badly for her to be there with him today, to celebrate his birthday with him, but she had work commitments. While he understood her need to be independent of him, to have her life and be successful in her own right, he secretly wished she’d give it all up to spend time with him.

“I miss you babe.” He mumbled staring at her smiling face, how he loved that smile, it seemed to light up the darkest of rooms, but most of all she gave his life meaning, she was the reason he woke up every morning and the reason he did what he did.

Having met three years ago was the best thing to ever happen to him, next to the band of course. It almost seemed as though fate had stepped in and brought them together with her literally falling into his arms walking through the streets of London. He hadn’t believed in love at first sight until he’d caught her as she turned a corner and bumped straight into him sending him flying to the ground and her landing on top. Looking up into those beautiful blue eyes he was caught like a fish on a hook.

Crawling from bed he made his way to the kitchen stopping by the front door to collect the newspaper. Tossing the paper on the table he moved to the counter preparing himself a cup of coffee and some breakfast. Just as he sat down to eat there was a knock on the door. “What” he groaned pushing his chair back and walking to the door.

“What do you want?” he asked grumpily opening the door seeing his three band mates and friends standing before him.

“Good morning to you too Egan.” Chuckled Shane stepping inside.

“We thought we’d help you celebrate your birthday.” Informed Nicky following Shane into the house.

“Come on in.” He muttered sarcastically under his breath as his three friends strolled towards the kitchen. “I’m not really in the celebrating mood.”  Whined Kian.

“What? Why not?” asked Mark patting him on the back.

“I’m just not.” Muttered Kian sitting down at the table and picking up the paper.

The three lads looked at each other, all knowing what was causing him to be so down.

“Come on Ki.” Said Nicky breaking the silence that had filled the room. “What do you say to a game of golf and a few drinks at the clubhouse?”

“I’m not interested.” Said Kian pretending to be more interested in the paper.

“Kian you can’t mope around here all day until dinner with ya folks.” Informed Mark. “So come on let’s go have some guy time.”

Kian went to say something when his phone rang. “Just a sec.” he said standing from the table to answer it.

“Hi handsome.” Smiled hearing his voice.

“Hey babe.” He smiled happy to hear her.

“How’s the birthday boy doing today?” she asked.

Kian glanced at his guests before stepping into the hallway. “I’d be much better if you were here.” He pouted. The three friends all shared a grin, it was amazing how Kian’s mood changed by just the sound of her voice.

“You know I would be.” Soothed . “But I’ll be there this weekend and I’ve got a surprise for you.” She giggled.

Kian raised an eyebrow at that comment. “Is it something naughty?” he asked with a cheeky smile on his face.

“Oi you! Always thinking about something else.” She laughed. “Besides I’m not telling you, you’ll just have to wait.”

“You’re such a tease.” He laughed.

“It’ll be worth it.” Smiled . “Anyways you got plans with the lads today? Maybe a bit of guy time?” asked trying to get information out of him.

“Well I hadn’t planned on it.” He said. “But they’re here now and want to golf.” He informed her.

“No sense you staying home and moping.” Scolded . “Go on, have some fun with the lads and I’ll call you later.”

“Alright.” He sighed looking back into the kitchen at his three friends sat at the table.  He knew she was right, in fact he knew the lads where right as well, if he didn’t go out he’d sit at home moping and feeling sorry for himself.

Saying their goodbyes the couple hung up. smiled to herself her plan was working perfectly so far. By the time she got to Sligo he’d be on the golf course giving her plenty of time to get everything into order for the night.

An hour later Kian found himself laughing and messing about with his friends on the golf course, completely forgetting that it was his birthday or that his girlfriend was across the ocean at work and completely unaware that his friends were in on her plan.

Three hours after leaving Dublin finally arrived in Sligo, she skillfully wound her way through the streets, a feeling of happiness surrounding her as the familiar sights passed by her. Sligo had become a home away from home for her, a place where she was comfortable and saw a future for her and Kian. Pulling up outside his house she slowly drove her car up the drive and parked it. Taking her bags from the back seat she walked the path to the front porch, digging her keys from her purse she opened the door and stepped inside, instantly feeling at home.

Climbing the stairs to the bedroom she couldn’t help but smile at the mess he had left it in that morning. Clothes and towels scattered the floor, the bedding a crumbled mess, typical Kian. Setting her bags by the door she quickly set to work, making the bed, tossing the dirty clothes and towels in the laundry basket. Next on her agenda was picking out clothes for the night, stepping into the closet she rummaged through his shirts and pants, picking out an outfit she placed it on the bed and then unpacked her own bags.  Placing her outfit on the bed she smiled contently at what she’d chosen for the night, a silky sexy red dress with a new set of sexy underwear sure to delight Kian when he caught sight of them. She couldn’t wait for the night to come to an end, knowing exactly where they’d both end it.

“Come on Ki, let’s get you home.” Said Nicky patting him on the back. “Can’t have you late for dinner with the folks.”

“I’m the guest of honor.” Chuckled Kian. “The party doesn’t begin until I arrive.”

“Seems someone is feeling better about their birthday.” Smiled Shane.

“Yeah, thanks for the game and drinks lads, it was fun.” Smiled Kian. “Just wish was here to spend the evening with my family.”

“You know she’d be here if she could.” Assured Mark knowing how hard it was for Kian to be away from her. “But isn’t she coming up over the weekend?” he asked trying to brighten Kian’s spirits.

“Yeah, can’t wait.” Grinned Kian. “I’ve got something special planned for her.” He smiled that smile that told the lads he was up to something and they weren’t going to find out what it was until after it had happened.

“I know that look.” Laughed Shane. “You’ve got something up your sleeve, something that is going to knock for six.”

Kian just grinned as he climbed into the car, his mind drifting off to his plans for the weekend. Shane took his seat in the back next to Mark, quickly digging his phone from his pocket he pretended to fiddle around with it checking to make sure Kian wasn’t watching him he typed out a text to . Mark watched giving a smirk as Shane slipped his phone back into his pocket giving Mark a smile that said all was going according to plan.

Standing before the bathroom mirror she applied a light dusting of eye shadow to her eyes, giving them an extra shine for the evening ahead followed by a light coat of pink lip gloss giving her lips that irresistible plump look that would have Kian licking his lips and begging for a kiss. Smacking her lips together she gave a smile as the sounds of her phone beeping signaled a new message. Walking out the bathroom to the bedroom she took it from the dresser, opening the message she giggled to herself as she read it Package is on the way, better be drop dead gorge for him ;) He’s miserable. -Shay

Placing the phone back on the dresser she turned to her pile of clothes laid neatly on the bed, slipping her robe off she slipped into the lace black panties and matching bra. Carefully she pulled the silky red dress of her head, pulling it down over her curves. Smoothing it out she moved towards the dresser taking the silver chain in her hands a smile creeping across her lips as she remembered what it meant to them, a gift for their third anniversary the three diamonds hanging on it signifying each amazing year spent together, she placed it around her neck, the three diamonds hanging down on her chest glistening in the late afternoon light. Satisfied with her look she slipped into the black strappy heals and headed to the balcony to await the birthday boy.

As Nicky drove the car up the drive Kian noticed a strange car in the drive. “Wonder who that could be.” He thought aloud. Stepping out of the car he waved his friends goodbye before cautiously ent g the house. Hearing music playing upstairs he quietly climbed the steps, stopping at the top he turned towards the room the music was coming from and slowly walked towards it. Stepping into the master bedroom he found the French doors to the balcony wide open and a beautiful woman standing on it, her long brown curls blowing in the breeze, a red silk dress hugging every curve that he knew all too well.

“ ?” he gasped, not fully believing that she was here, was he dreaming?

“Surprise.” She grinned turning around to face him, that beautiful smile that sent his heart into overdrive smiling back at him.

Kian quickly closed the space between them, taking her in his arms he kissed her passionately as he lifted her off the ground. returned his kiss, her hands slipping into his hair. “I can’t believe you’re here.” He mumbled against her lips, slowly setting her feet back on the ground. “I’m not dreaming am I?”

“No you’re not dreaming.” Assured kissing him once more to prove the moment was real. “Did you really think I’d miss your birthday?” she asked stroking his face.

“But what about your job?” he asked. “I thought…” He was silenced as placed her lips on his again.

“Surprise number two.” She smiled breaking the kiss. Kian looked at her curiously. “I took a leave of absence.” She informed. “I missed you too much. I just want to be with you Ki.” She confessed wrapping her arms around his neck and staring into his eyes.

The biggest grin possible crossed Kian’s face. “Babe, I’m so happy to hear that.” He cooed still smiling, his own hand stroking her cheek. “I love that you’re going to be around more.” Leaning closer to her he brushed his lips against hers. “And I love you.”

“Love you too Ki.” Smiled . “Now get in that bathroom and get showered, we’ve got dinner in an hour.” She ordered pushing him towards the bathroom, giving his bum a tap.

Standing before the mirror Kian fussed with his tie. “Babe, why do I have to wear a tie?” he whined “It’s just dinner with my parents.”

“Because I want this night to be special Ki.” She informed turning him to face her. She expertly tied his tie as he watched. “There you go handsome.” She smiled running her hands down his arms, slipping her hands into his.

“Alright, you go get your things together and I’ll be down in a minute.” Instructed Kian. He watched her leave the room, hearing her shoes clicking along the wood floor and then as she went down the stairs. Once he was sure the coast was clear he rummaged through a drawer pulling out a small black box. “Tonight’s the night.” He smiled to himself slipping the box into his pocket, he was going to have the best birthday present ever.

Dinner was filled with laughs as Kian’s family talked of past birthdays and other things. They ate a feast prepared by Patricia complete with bottles of wine to celebrate the day and once everyone was done the cake was brought in. Kian smiled as his family sang happy birthday to him, right beside him, her hand nestled in his. “Make a wish Ki.” Encouraged as the song ended. Looking sideways at his girlfriend Kian gave her hand a squeeze, turning back towards the cake he made a wish before blowing out the candles. Everyone clapped as he blew them all out.

“What did you wish for?” whispered .

“If I tell you, it won’t come true.” Winked Kian.

After eating cake everyone gathered in the family room where their conversations continued, more laughs shared and presents passed out. “Your turn .” Said Kevin looking at her as they came to the one person in the room who hadn’t presented Kian with anything yet.

“Excuse me just a second.” Said standing from the couch.

Kian watched as she exited the room to the hallway returning a few moments later with a small box in her hand. Kian watched her curiously, he wasn’t sure what could be in the box, but was interested to find out, he was sure whatever it was he’d love it.

Nervously stood before Kian, she’d had this moment planned for months, but now that it was here she wasn’t sure she could go through with it.

“What is it ?” he asked sensing her nervousness.

“Erm…well.” She stuttered. “I know this isn’t the traditional way…” she paused trying to collect the thoughts that were spinning around in her head, the words she needed to say hiding from her.

Kian reached his hand out to hers, taking it in his he gave it a reassuring squeeze. gave him a small, shy smile, a blush creeping across her cheeks. “Whatever it is you can tell me.” He soothed looking her directly in the eye. Looking into his sparkling blue eyes she found the strength and encouragement she needed.

Kian’s family watched on, everyone glued to the scene before them, no one sure what was happening but intrigued.

dropped to her knees, placing herself at eye level before him. “Kian, you’re the love of my life and the only person that I see me spending it with. Since the moment you walked into it I’ve found it hard to breathe. You’re the sweetest, kindest, most caring man I’ve ever known. I want to make a life with you, have a family, grow old and live happily ever after.” She told him honestly, tears filling her eyes as she spoke her words of love to him. Kian listened to her intently, his eyes locked with hers. “I want you to make my dreams come true, to complete my fairytale.”  Opening the box she held it before him. “Kian John Frances Egan.” She asked looking into his eyes. “Will you be my husband? Will you marry me and make me your wife?”

Gasps filled the room as everyone took in what had just happened, holding their breath as they awaited  Kian’s answer.

Kian was gob smacked, he never thought that he’d be the one being proposed to.  They’d talked about marriage, having a family, he knew they both wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Seeing the silver band before him he looked back at his girlfriend.

“I’d be honored to be your husband.” He grinned pulling her to him kissing her deeply. “And I’d be even more honored to have you as my wife.”

Cheers and clasps filled the room as the couple shared another kiss.

“Thank you.” Whispered as the tears rolled down her cheeks, she couldn’t have been any happier at that moment, the man of her dreams had said yes to making all her dreams come true.

“So am I wearing the ring or you?” he asked taking the box from her hand.

“You.” Said taking the ring from the box and placing it on his right ring finger. Looking back up at him the couple shared a smile, completely happy at the moment in time.

“I actually have a surprise of my own.” He blushed reaching into his pocket and pulling out another small black box.

gasped as he opened it, revealing the most beautiful diamond ring she’d ever seen. “Oh my.” She breathed looking back at Kian.

“Seems we were both on the same wavelength tonight.” He smiled taking her hand and placing the ring on her finger, a perfect fit. He leaned in kissing her once more. Breaking the kiss he rested his forehead against hers. “I love you.” He whispered rubbing his nose against hers.

“I love you too.” She smiled. “Happy Birthday Ki.”

“A very happy birthday it is.” He grinned. “You got anymore surprises?”

“Maybe just one.” She giggled. “But you’ll have to wait until we get home.” She winked.

Scooping his fiancé into his arms he looked at his family gathered around them all wearing smiles and amused looks on their faces.

“Thanks for dinner mam and the presents everyone.” He said looking around the room. “But if you’ll excuse me I’ve got to get this beautiful lady home.” He grinned moving towards the door.

Arriving back at the house Kian was quick to take his fiancé in his arms once again. He carried her up the stairs to the bedroom gently placing her on the bed.  “Kian Egan you are a very naughty boy.” Giggled wrapping her arms around his neck.

Kian leaned in capturing her lips in a tender embrace, running his hands down her body he trailed his kisses down her neck listening to her joyous moans as her own hands ran along his body. Rolling him to his back straddled him. “Here’s your last surprise birthday boy.” She winked slipping off him she stood at the edge of the bed. Slowly she pulled the dress up her body and over her head tossing it behind her.

A low moan escaped Kian has he admired her beautiful body, covered only by a sexy pair of panties and bra. Stumbling to his knees he reached out for her, running his finger along the curves of her breasts. “This is new.” He husked leaning his face closer to hers the warmth of his breath sending a shiver of excitement down her spine, she craved his touch right now, craved him touching and exploring every inch of her body and them joined together until they reached their highest point calling out for the other.   Pushing him back on the bed she crawled up his body, straddling him once more. “Happy birthday baby.” She whispered placing a sensual kiss upon his lips. Kian deepened the kiss; rolling her to her back he placed himself upon her slowly kissing his way down her neck.

“Ki” whispered pulling his face back to hers.

“Yeah?” he breathed looking down at her.

“What did you wish for?” she asked looking into his eyes.

“For you to be my wife.” He smiled. couldn’t stop the smile that spread across her lips.

“I’m glad I made your wish come true then.” She grinned .

“Me too.”  Smiled Kian. “Now Mrs. Egan, prepare for a very long night.” He winked as a night of slow passion filled love making ensued, closing one chapter in their lives and beginning another…
