“How much bloody longer?” wailed into ’s ear. “Half an hour or so” shrugged in reply. “God, Shannon isn’t that far” sighed dramatically. “If you don’t keep it down, you may never live to see it” answered in a warning tone, prompting to huff and look out the window gloomily. “Would you look at those two” groaned ten minutes later, nudging in the side with her elbow. She was of course referring to the couple in front who were obviously completely in love with each other. “Get a room!” continued loudly.

The girl in the seat in front turned around “Jealously will get you nowhere” she grinned, then licked her tongue down the side of her boyfriends face “Yum! Salty” she giggled. “Jesus” her boyfriend laughed, rubbing his face “Can you ask your friend to stop making a show of me ?” he asked, flashing his big puppy dog eyes at her. laughed lightly “It must be your bad influence ” she joked back, poking her tongue out at him. “You all need therapy” sighed “Now are we nearly there?”

Shannon airport was a nightmare, it was the middle of July, and it seemed that every family that side of Ireland was going on holiday. looked around and felt a pang of sympathy for all the distressed mothers, who were desperately trying to hold onto Grandparent’s, children, and nappy bags. “Ok missy, we’ve got your bags. Are you ready for the mad dash?” asked, rubbing ’s shoulder lightly. snapped out of her daydream and smiled “As I’ll ever be” she replied, bracing herself for the press that would be waiting outside the arrivals hall.

“It’s awfully posh to have a pre-wedding dinner, don’t you think?” said, while preening herself in the mirror of ’s room. “Actually I think it’s a lovely idea” replied through slightly clenched teeth. “Easy for you to say, I’ve seen your dress” sighed. “And I’ve seen yours Ams, it’s lovely. Why are you so worried?” asked more gently. “I’m ok, just bored of my wardrobe it would seem” sighed. “Well I may have just the thing” grinned, going to her case and pulling out a short, strappy blue dress and offering it to . “The Chanel?” clapped her hand to her mouth and squealed “I can’t wear the Chanel!” she screamed. “I saw you admiring it, and luckily I know you very well, and anticipated such a conversation… so it’s yours” smiled. “Oh , I can’t!” protested. “Of course you can, but will you please go and do it in your room? I need to get ready too!” joked. “Oh ! I love you” grinned, kissing her hard on the cheek. laughed “You and everybody else…. Now leave!”

scrutinised her reflection in the mirror. She wore a strapless black dress that clung to her curves, and showed off her collarbone and lightly tanned skin to perfection. Her hair fell down her back in a straight smooth style, and a little blush, mascara and lip-gloss finished the look off perfectly. Confident that she looked her best, she picked up her small clutch bag, and exited the lavish hotel room.

All the way down in the elevator she drummed the hand rail nervously. Only one more day till the wedding. Even now she had mixed feelings about it, but it was a bit too late to do anything about them. She reached the function room, where the dinner was to be, and paused slightly. She took a deep breath and before she could think about it too much, she entered the room.

***********

As soon as she stepped foot in the room, she was ambushed by people, old and new friends, all wanting to speak to her. She glanced around nervously, and took a glass of champagne from a waiter who was passing. She made small talk, and laughed politely at jokes and anecdotes, but all the time, her eye’s searched for him.

Her oldest friend Mick was in the middle of telling a really uninteresting story concerning rugby, or football, or some other sport that people like Mick liked, when she saw him. He was leaning gently against a column, talking avidly to someone. She took in his appearance from across the room. It always amazed her at how strong her reaction was to seeing him. At the same time she felt cold yet on fire, smooth yet prickly. Her skin burned and longed for his touch, half of her wanted him to ravage her roughly, but the other half yearned for him to make love to her slowly and tenderly, caressing her all over.

As if he felt her eyes on him, he glanced over to where she stood, riveted to the spot with a small smile playing on her perfect lips. His heart slowed to a complete stop for a moment as he took in the sheer beauty of her. She was easily the most beautiful girl in the room, as he felt himself being drawn to her, simply wanting to be near her, to touch her hair, feel the softness of her skin. In a dream, he excused himself and began to make his way over to her. saw this, and did the same, kissing Mick on the cheek and promising to catch up with him later. As quickly as they could, they made their way to the centre of the room. Just before they reached one another, was accosted, by an old school friend, and was greeted by someone didn’t recognise. He looked over at her, and saw her shrug her shoulders lightly, smiling that heart warming smile of hers. He looked disappointed, but smiled none the less, and gave her a look that said he’d be coming over soon enough.

Two hours later, she had completely lost sight of him. It was as if he’d disappeared altogether. She stood by the dance floor, as she watched and dancing wildly on the floor, a large circle of people stood around hem, clapping and cheering; smiled, and stepped away.

She walked out into the cool night air of the balcony. Stepping right to the edge, she took in her surroundings. It was a beautiful hotel, and beautiful grounds, fit for a king really. Her eye was drawn to the large Lake that shimmered in the moonlight. Two people were dancing slowly beside it, and she could vaguely make out and his girlfriend . She sighed softly as she looked down at the couple who were clearly completely in love.

“It’s amazing what weddings do to people isn’t it?” she heard his husky voice before she saw him, and she smiled to herself. She felt him drape his jacket over her bare shoulders, and she snuggled into it. He stood beside her, and took in the vision of the loving couple. “I always thought would be the first to get married” she said softly. “Why’s that?” he asked. “I dunno, he just seems the most ready…… He loves her so much” she said dreamily. Softly, she felt his fingers intertwine with her own, as his thumb stroked her palm softly “He could never love her as much as I love you” he answered huskily. smiled cheekily “Oh, and how much is that?” “More than you’ll ever know” he whispered in her ear.

As the music inside the hall slowed, the strains of “Have I told you lately that I love you?” could be heard filling the air. “Would you ever do me the honour oh Fiancée of mine?” asked grandly making giggle. “I’d be honoured” she answered, curtseying a little, before wrapping herself in his strong embrace. His arms encircled her waist and she sighed contentedly. “I can’t believe we got this far” she said softly. “I can… you’re mad about me” he said. She heard the smile in his voice and pinched his side playfully. kissed her hair softly “Tomorrow it’ll be all over, and you’ll finally be Mrs ” he sighed. “You’re going to turn up right?” he joked. leaned back and looked in his deep eyes lovingly “If I don’t get a better offer” she teased. “I better keep you away from uncle Ralph then, he’s quite the ladies man” retorted spinning her around and gesturing towards a middle aged, balding overweight man, who was gorging on cake. “He’s just my type” responded, kissing him on the neck softly. nuzzled into her lips, as she kissed and licked him. He groaned softly. “We better get inside before you get yourself all worked up” she grinned wickedly pulling away from him, and leading him towards the door. exhaled loudly, but pulled her back softly “, have I told you lately?” he said smiling sweetly. “Told me what?” she asked innocently. “How much I love you” he answered earnestly, kissing her soft pink lips delicately. “Hmmmm… Not in the last ten minutes” she grinned “Have I told you?” “Told me what?” he asked cheekily.

grinned and stepped away from him “That you’re impossible” “Maybe I am” he laughed “But that’s why you love me” he grinned, pulling her close and hugging her dearly. “I do” she whispered into his ear, sending shivers down his spine. “Tomorrow, those words will make me the happiest man in the world” he grinned. “I would have said them the first day we met” she answered, kissing his cheek softly and leading him back to the party, where they would say goodbye for the night, and prepare for the rest of their lives together.
