had never seen a grown woman mope as much as his girlfriend was. Normally, she handled being on the road just fine. She had met
on one of their tours two years ago when she was hired as a wardrobe assistant. With a job like that, she had grown used to the busy lifestyle even before she and
started dating. But around the holidays, moped. This would be her first Easter away from home. The year before,
had gotten some time off and the two had flown to the States to spend Easter with
's family. Since they were currently on tour, they would be spending Easter in a hotel room. "I know you'd rather be spending Easter at home with your family."
placed a kiss on
's cheek. It was the night before Easter and they were eating at an all night diner near their hotel after the show. Whenever they ate together,
sat beside
instead of across from her. "I'm sorry."
"I wish you wouldn't do that."
sighed. "First of all, I chose this lifestyle for myself. Second of all, you're making it sound like I don't want to be with you tomorrow. I want nothing more than to be with you for every holiday, I just wish we were somewhere else."
moved over and sat as close to her as he possibly could. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "You don't have to explain yourself love."
assured her. "I miss my family, too. It gets easier over time, but the feeling never really goes away."
let
out a deep sigh. "You should be thankful that you get to spend Easter with the person who loves you more than anyone else in the world."
couldn't help but smile. She had fallen fast and hard for
and he for her. She hadn't planned on working for more than one tour and now she had just started her third. She looked up at
to find that he was looking down at her. She kissed him quickly on his lips. "You're right . I'm very lucky to be here with you." She rested her head on his shoulder while they waited for the waitress to bring their check.
It was almost two thirty AM by the time the pair got back to their room.
held
close to his body while she fell asleep. He knew she had given up a lot when she permanently relocated to Ireland. Her parents weren't thrilled with the idea of her moving halfway across the world, but they liked
a lot. Out of respect for her father's wishes,
and
did not live together.
lived in a loft that
insisted on paying for. As much as he loved
,
knew that something had to change. He had a hard time sleeping that night. He had too much on his mind.
When
awoke the next morning, she found
looking at her. She could tell he hadn't had much sleep. She kissed him gently on the lips.
"Rough night
?" She asked him.
nodded.
"Happy Easter."
grinned sleepily. "Get showered and dressed. We're gonna grab breakfast and then go to church with the guys."
smiled and kissed
.
"Thank you
."
knew that
was going to do everything in his power to make sure she had a good Easter.
She and
had breakfast at the same diner where they had eaten the night before. Diners reminded
of home. She couldn't have been happier to attend church on Easter.
took her to church as often as their schedules allowed. She still wasn't used to attending a Catholic church. Her family was Baptist. She was saddened that she
couldn't accept Communion and
quietly joked that she should convert to Catholicism.
assured
that get parents would disown her if she did such a thing. After church, they all headed back to the hotel.
"Babe,"
began, placing his hand on
's arm, "can you stay here with for a few minutes? I have something to take care of."
looked at
curiously but nodded her head.
"Hurry back."
smiled, kissed
, and jogged in the direction of the elevators. "What's this all about ?"
asked, turning her attention towards
.
"I know nothing."
smiled that toothy grin like only he could.
"Spill it
."
didn't believe him for one second. "Or you'll be sorry."
burst out in laughter.
"As threatening as that sounds, I'm sticking with my original story, I know nothing."
crossed her arms over her chest and stood glaring at
. The two stood there - an awkward silence between them until
returned. He was grinning like an idiot when he returned, but
didn't look amused.
"What's with the face?"
laughed as he approached.
narrowed her eyes at him. "I have a surprise for you."
winked at her.
"I hate surprises."
stated simply. She had always hated them. The suspense drove her crazy. It was one of those little quirks that
loved so much about her.
"You're gonna love this one."
insisted. "Thanks
."
"No problem."
replied.
grabbed
by the hand and led her towards the elevators.
didn't talk to
. She was protesting his surprise. When they stood outside of their room,
stood in front of the door, blocking her entrance.
"Close your eyes."
demanded. He looked so excited. His eyes were glowing with excitement.
couldn't bring herself to protest his request. She made an elaborate gesture in closing her eyes as tight as possible. She heard
open the door. He took her hand and led her into the room, closing the door behind them. "Alright, you can open
your eyes now."
said, grinning. He was proud of himself. When
opened her eyes, she felt a wave of emotions.
had done all that he could to make sure that she had a memorable Easter. On the table, in the center of the room, was a vase with a bouquet of yellow roses, and a large wicker basket full of grass and other things that
she'd have to examine later. Scattered around the room she could see several brightly colored plastic eggs. On the bed was a humungous stuffed rabbit and another plastic egg - an orange one.
"
, you didn't have to." She could feel the warmth in her cheeks. She was blushing. "I didn't get you anything." She frowned.
"I can think of quite a few things you can do to repay me."
winked at her.
laughed. It was just like
to say something like that.
"Shut up."
smacked him playfully in the arm.
"Go check out your basket."
insisted, walking over to the table.
followed him. There were two chairs at the table. They each took a seat. The first thing she noticed was a small black jewelry box. The lid was already flipped up and inside was a pair of diamond earrings. She gasped and looked at
.
"Did the Easter Bunny hit the jackpot?"
asked him. In the beginning she had protested
buying her expensive gifts, but
had won that battle.
“No. He's just in love."
assured her.
sighed and continued to look through the basket. There was a bag of peanut M&Ms - her favorite candy. Next, she pulled out a brand new iPod. She had been complaining to
that her old one didn't have enough space. "It already has all of our albums programmed in it." He smiled proudly.
"Thank you
." There was a pair of edible underwear in the basket and
joked that the Easter Bunny hadn't forgotten him after all. There was some more candy, her favorite sent of body spray, and a card. She hugged
and kissed him. "You're too good to me
."
"There's more. Each of the eggs has a number on it. You have to open them in number order." Normally,
would complain about
's attempt turning Easter into a game, but she was so grateful for what he had done that she went off in search of the egg with the number one on it. When she found it, she opened it up and pulled out a slip of
paper. It read: Once in a lifetime you look in someone's eyes. It was the first line of her favorite Westlife song - As Love As My Witness. As she opened the eggs, she found that they contained the rest of the lyrics to the song. "Who knew you could be so romantic, ?"
pulled get into a hug and kissed her on top of her head.
"There is one more egg."
said and
remembered seeing the orange egg on the bed.
sat on the side of the bed and picked up the egg. When she opened it, she saw something fall onto the bed. She realized what it was when she pulled out the slip of paper. It read: Will you marry me?
's eyes widened as she reached down and picked up a diamond ring off of the bed. When she looked up,
was down on one knee.
"Oh
!" Was all she could say.
"Well?"
didn't realize she hadn't answered him.
"Of course I will
. I love you!"
"I love you, too."
replied. "Remind me to thank that bunny."
